Shrapnel, the anticipated first-person shooter from Avalanche Studios, has unveiled new updates for players participating in its early access experience. The game’s latest release introduces a marketplace for purchasing premium cosmetic items as a major competition gets underway.
Introducing the Shrapnel Marketplace
The new Shrapnel Training Exercise 2 (STX2) version launched this week adds equipable in-game cosmetics like premium weapon skins that players can purchase using the game’s SHRAP token. Players will eventually be able to loot, sell, and trade the cosmetic items.
“The debut of our marketplace and premium cosmetics marks a pivotal milestone in our journey towards a unique Shrapnel economy that rewards creators and players in new ways,” said Shrapnel CEO Mark Long.
STX2 also includes a new sub-machine gun weapon, a suppressor attachment, and new environment art. The skins range in price from 5 SHRAP (about $140) for common items up to 30 SHRAP ($825) for legendary skins.
$80K Event Kicks Off
The STX2 early access release coincides with an in-game competition awarding over 298,971 SHRAP tokens (over $82K) to top players between Wednesday and Saturday. Players are ranked based on their performance during the four-day event.
According to developer Neon Machine, Shrapnel has already attracted over 100,000 active players. The early access version is currently priced at $20. The studio raised $20 million in funding last year.
Shrapnel’s gameplay and crypto integration have generated significant hype ahead of its planned 2025 free-to-play launch. The Avalanche-based shooter aims to compete with major online shooters by blending exciting action with blockchain rewards.
