  • The NFT-linked feature is currently only available to Android users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Spotify has over 489 million active users worldwide and has tried integrating NFT in the past.
  • It has enabled artists such as The Wombats and Steve Aoki to promote Non-Fungible Tokens on their Spotify pages.

Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming service, has dipped its toes into the world of Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) by testing a new service called token-enabled playlists.

The newly launched service, which is still in testing, allows NFT holders to connect their wallets to the streaming service and listen to curated music.

The service is only available to token holders from the Moonbirds, Fluf, Overlord, and Kingship communities.

Spotify’s new service will be tested for three months when playlists will be actively updated.

Furthermore, the token-enabled playlists are only accessible to community members with a unique link.

Content creator and web3 gaming and media influencer @Overlord xyz shared more details about Spotify’s new service on Twitter, including its exclusive availability to Android users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and New Zealand.

They also mentioned that Creepz NFT project holders could link their Web3 wallet on Spotify to gain access to the NFT community’s “Invasion” playlist.

“We’ve been selected as one of Spotify’s partners in a new pilot. The exclusive pilot of their token-enabled playlists. Launching with a holder-curated playlist.” The tweet stated.

In addition to Overlord, Kingship, Universal Music Group’s NFT informed its more than 32,000 followers that it had created a token-gated playlist featuring Led Zeppelin, Missy Eliott, Snoop Dogg, and Queen.

“We KINGSHIP strives to ALWAYS be at the forefront of technology and music. Now we’re taking this commitment a step further by launching a new token-enabled playlist with @Spotify! This is a specially curated playlist exclusively for KINGSHIP Key Card (NFT) holders.” the tweet stated.

Apoorv Lathey, the lead developer of NFT liquidity pool NFTX, also shared a screenshot of Spotify’s pilot service, which includes a step-by-step process for accessing curated playlists on the music streaming site.

Spotify “routinely conducts several tests to improve our user experience,” according to a spokesperson for the music streaming service, adding that “some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience, while others serve only as important learnings.”

With over 489 million users, Spotify has previously attempted to integrate NFTs into its service.

It has also enabled artists like The Wombats and Steve Aoki to promote Non-Fungible Tokens on their Spotify pages.

Unfortunately, the global music streaming platform did not provide any additional details about its plans to expand the token-enabled playlist currently being tested.

The announcement sparked a surge in the value of Web3 music tokens. Viberate’s (VIB) native token, for example, was up 33%. Other permits rose 4% and 2.5%, respectively, including Audius (AUDIO) and Rhythm (RHYTHM).

Meanwhile, a slew of Web3 music platforms has emerged to decentralize music listening. Audius, for example, is a cryptocurrency-linked streaming service that rewards users with AUDIO tokens for interacting with its app. In contrast, Royal and anotherblock enable creators to sell music royalties as fractionalized NFTs.
