What was once just a Cardano-based NFT project, the Hungrynaru team hopes to turn Yummi Universe into an ever-expanding brand. The brand creates NFT collections, hosts exciting in-person events, sells merchandise, and is currently working towards a P2E game.
In a short Discord interview with Yummi team member Nick Jorens (also known as SupFrost), he provided me with insightful information about Yummi Universe’s origin, $Yummi coin, and end goal. I will also be including my overall thoughts and comments on the Yummi Universe’s community at the end of the article.
Naru, the blue narwhal-like creature with arms and legs, was founded and created by Yummi founders David and Shannon back in their school years (2012). Fast forward to the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the “Hungrynaru” Instagram account was created to spread positivity to a distressed world.
In September 2021, Yummi Universe officially joined the NFT space. “[We were] [i]nspired by the PFP phenomenon and projects such as BAYC and Cool Cats, we created our first 10k Naru drop,” said Nick.
Native Cardano Token ($Yummi)
With $Yummi coins, holders can purchase/mint NFTs and buy in-game items in the upcoming P2E game. With the brand’s most recent partnership with Anvil, the team created a Yummi Partnership Program, which essentially “helps new & existing projects to set up minting, and also allows them to accept both $ADA and $YUMMI for their NFTs.” Yummi
Universe has partnered with a few more NFT marketplaces to expand $Yummi coins’ exposure.
At the time of this writing, $Yummi coins can be earned through two staking methods. People can earn Yummi rewards by staking their $ADA coins to the YUMMI Pool and claiming $Yummi tokens via DripDropz.io. The most popular way to yield $Yummi coins is by staking a Naru in Yummi Universe’s staking dashboard (note: the amount of $Yummi coins a Naru can generate depends on its rarity trait(s)).
If the staking process is too tedious, people can purchase $Yummi on most Cardano DEX platforms like Minswap and SundaeSwap. Nick said, “We’d love to be on Centralized Exchanges too, but they require you to pay a fee upfront. At the moment, we’re channeling all of our profits into our long-term goals – but hopefully, one day, you’ll find us on an exchange like Coinbase or Binance!”
Nick ends the interview with the following statement: We have huge ambitions to build our brand and become as big as Pokemon! Our current goal is to launch collectible Trading Card NFTs, which will be playable in our TCG before our full battle game. The goal is to utilize the power of Blockchain and NFTs to have Trading Cards that can be used forever & will always have utility in further developments. It would be an absolute dream to have a Yummi Universe cartoon series, and we will work towards that goal too!
Thoughts on the Community
I have joined many Cardano-based NFT Discord servers since October 2021, and I can confidently say that Yummi Universe has one of the most robust communities in the entire NFT space.
When I asked Nick if the team ever expected Yummi Universe to become as big as it is today, he replied, “Never! It’s unbelievable to us that we have grown so much in such a short time. It feels like a dream. We’ve spent our whole lives as struggling artists and creatives, but NFTs and blockchain have changed our lives.” He continues, “We are overwhelmed by the love we get from our community. It also makes us so happy to see people bonding over Yummi and making genuine friendships.”
