Midnight Breeze by Dutchtide is a generative banner project launched in December 2021. Dutchtide is an artist from the Netherlands who officially joined the NFT space in September 2020. His work solely focuses on the word, Ma (間), meaning “space,” or sometimes interpreted as “in-between state.”

“A good Buddhist example of this phenomenon (Ma (間)) is to ask yourself right now: what will be my next thought? If you asked yourself truthfully while looking for the answer, you might have experienced Ma (間). [There is] absolute silence while waiting for the next thing. Space in-between space.” said Dutchtide. By implementing this concept into his art, Dutchtide hopes his audience can experience certain emotions that enable them to connect with themselves on another level.

Additionally, Dutchtide’s art bridges both the Netherlands and Japan together.

In an interview with Dutchtide himself, he said, “[There was] a lot of cross-influence happening back then [between the Netherlands and Japan in the early 1600s]. The biggest example is Van Gogh being inspired by an artwork of Hokusai, which made him create cherry blossom pieces.”

What impresses Dutchtide the most about Japan is how well it can be recognized as one of the world’s most modern countries and still closely hold onto its cultural heritage. We can see this being reflected throughout the Midnight Breeze collection, where there is a balance between a progressive and traditional setting.

What’s next for Midnight Breeze?

The Dutchtide studio is currently animating the entire Midnight Breeze collection, an entirely new set called Midnight Breeze V2 (current “V1” holders will be given a free mint). Dutchtide mentions in his Discord server that due to the current bear market, he will hold out on releasing V2 until the “time is right ” to avoid excessive devaluation.

What’s the end goal for the Dutchtide brand?

Dutchtide says he envisions the brand to become a multimedia studio. More specifically, he hopes the company can focus on a wide variety of art/media like games, music, animation, and more. In other words, Dutchtide hopes to create a space where he and other people can make it without limitation.
