- MetaMask has extended its security alert features to multiple blockchains beyond Ethereum, including Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Smart Chain, and others, aiming to boost safety for its nearly 30 million monthly active users.
- The privacy-focused alerts, developed with Blockaid, warn users about threats when transacting across chains without compromising privacy by sharing data externally.
- MetaMask plans future protections like scam identification education to support user growth and mainstream adoption, which has jumped 55% since September partly due to a Robinhood partnership.
MetaMask, the popular Ethereum-based crypto wallet, has extended its security alert features to multiple blockchains. This comes as the platform sees significant growth, nearing 30 million monthly active users. The move aims to boost safety for users interacting with decentralized apps.
Expanding Alerts to More Chains
The security alerts will now cover Ethereum as well as Linea, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche. Alerts warn users about potential threats when making transactions, without compromising privacy. This differs from other wallets that share user data externally.
Developing Privacy-Focused Protection
MetaMask developed the alerts with Blockaid to detect threats without sharing user data. The feature has already protected assets from major hacks, including Vitalik Buterin’s compromised account. MetaMask plans future privacy protections like scam identification education.
Supporting User Growth and Mainstream Adoption
The security boost comes as MetaMask expands. Monthly users jumped 55% from September to January, nearing 30 million. Mainstream partnerships with Robinhood also contributed to growth. As adoption rises, security tools help prevent fraud and build trust.
Ongoing Enhancement of Safety Features
MetaMask continually improves safety amid adoption growth. The privacy-focused alerts now cover more chains and have blocked millions in potential fraud. Further protections are in development like scam education. As Web3 gains traction, security helps onboard new users.
