  • ZachXBT, a well-known blockchain investigator, recently deactivated his Twitter account. Shortly after, fake accounts impersonating ZachXBT emerged trying to scam people.
  • According to Michael Khekoian, the fake ZachXBT accounts are posing as the real investigator in order to trick users into downloading malware or sharing sensitive info.
  • Earlier this year, ZachXBT was involved in a lawsuit with Jeffrey Huang who accused him of defamation over a report. The crypto community donated over $1 million to ZachXBT’s legal defense.

The crypto community was shocked when prominent blockchain investigator ZachXBT recently deactivated his Twitter account. ZachXBT is known for publicly exposing fraudulent cryptocurrency projects. However, some nefarious actors have taken advantage of ZachXBT’s absence by creating fake accounts impersonating him.

The Emergence of Fake Accounts

Shortly after ZachXBT’s account went dark, several imposter accounts popped up on Twitter. These fake ZachXBT accounts mimic his old display name and profile picture. According to Michael Khekoian, an executive at Wallet Guard, these impersonators are trying to scam people by offering assistance and enticing them to click on phishing links.

The Risks of Engaging with Fraudsters

Khekoian warns users to stay vigilant against these fraudulent accounts. The fake ZachXBT profiles frequently aim to trick users into downloading malware or sharing sensitive information. By posing as the famous investigator, these scammers hope to gain people’s trust in order to manipulate them.

ZachXBT’s Previous Legal Battle

Earlier this year, ZachXBT was involved in a high-profile lawsuit. In June, Jeffrey Huang, also known as MachiBigBrother, accused ZachXBT of defamation. This stemmed from a report ZachXBT published alleging that Huang embezzled funds from crypto projects. The crypto community rallied behind ZachXBT, donating over $1 million to support his legal defense.

Conclusion

The ZachXBT impersonators highlight the ongoing threat of scams in crypto. As prominent members of the community take breaks or leave, opportunistic fraudsters attempt to fill the void. By remaining vigilant and skeptical, crypto users can avoid falling victim to these impersonation scams. The crypto community must continue to band together against those who seek to take advantage of others.
