- The music platform will issue a limited edition “NACHTS” collection from Mischa Fanghaenel.
- The “NACHTS” collection is among the first releases, with plans for more projects in the future, including sound-reactive NFTs and collaborations with renowned DJs.
Beatport has recently launched an NFT marketplace on Polkadot. The electronic music platform is the latest in a long line of music companies to make the switch to web3.
Beatport collaborated with Define Creative, a Berlin-based web3 startup, to build Beatport.io on Aventus, a parachain layer based on the Polkadot Network. The company also revealed its first NFT collection, ‘NACHTS,’ which means “at night” in German.
‘NACHTS’ is a collection of 175 one-of-a-kind portraits by Berlin-based photographer Mischa Fanghaenel. The collection, which is inspired by Berlin’s citywide shutdown during the pandemic, is also synchronized with music composed using AI models.
Beatport’s media services SVP Ed Hill announced that the company would incorporate techno elements into various NFT art drops, dubbed Music+.
“Music+” refers to Beatport.io drops that are more than just music; they are cultural artifacts driven by the musicians.” “Some of these projects may be more video-focused than musical,” Hill told Decrypt. Beatport.io works similarly to a marketplace like OpenSea in that you can buy, sell, and trade NFTs you own, but with a strong emphasis on electronic music.”
Beatport is an online store that focuses on DJs and sells full songs as well as resources for creating remix music. The company has offices in Denver, and Los Angeles, both in the United States and Berlin in Germany.
Beatport joins LimeWire, Sound, Royal, and LGND.io in the NFT music arena as digital service providers (DSPs) continue to pivot and adopt new ways of sharing revenue with creators and their fans.
Exclusive music from producer DJ Len Faki will accompany Beatport’s first NFT collection.
Speaking with Decrypt, Fakki stated, “I am thrilled to have contributed a bonus track from my recently released double album ‘Fusion’ in collaboration with Mischa Fanghaenel for the NACHTS project,” he said. “This track was produced exclusively for the ‘NACHTS’ edition and serves as a good example of how music and art can come together in a unique format.”
