Introduction
With the general excitement in the crypto community surrounding the upcoming Ethereum Merge, blockchain firm ConsenSys has revealed its plans to unveil limited edition eco-friendly NFTs to commemorate Ethereum’s upgrade.
ConsenSys regards The Merge as a historic moment in the history of Web3 and a cause for celebration. In expressing its gratitude to the researchers, developers, and the Ethereum team, for their impressive innovation and years of dedication to the project, the company has invited members of the community to participate in the launch of an NFT series called “Regenesis.”
The company noted that Ethereum’s transition from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake would significantly improve scalability, increase security, and reduce the network’s carbon footprint by 99.95%. In addition, this resolves the energy-intensive mining criticisms faced by the NFT and Crypto communities.
Regenesis NFT will be one of the first sustainable Green NFTs, and the collection will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain. The collection will also come in different editions highlighting Merge’s benefits, including security, sustainability, and scalability.
According to the blockchain firm, the art explores Merge’s core theme, sustainability. It will also highlight the “ambitious re-architecture” of the Ethereum blockchain, a feature that sets the network “2000X” more efficient and ready to support the next generation of NFT, Web3 developers, and creators.
ConsenSys created the Regenesis collection in partnership with Invisible North to design the illustrations by Chris Skinner, an artist, and illustrator, with the illustrations made by Keithcity Group.
The limited collection will be available to be minted for free on the day of The Merge, expected between September 10 and 16. The Regenesis collection is not reserved exclusively for Ethereum developers. Anyone is free to mint as many as they like. However, each user is responsible for paying the gas fee, which could vary depending on the activities on the Ethereum Network.
The ConsenSys team noted that a link to the claim page would be posted on the Merge hub on the Merge day. And to claim your NFT, all you have to do is connect your MetaMask wallet.
The timeline to claim an NFT is from 9 am EST and will only be open for 72 hours. However, the firm mentioned that they would update the information as the Merge comes closer.
Notably, each NFT from the collection represents a world that embodies all the benefits of the Merge, as mentioned earlier, and a chance to own a piece of technological memorabilia. For example, the utility of the Regenesis project comes from proving that you were present during the celebration of the Merge: a moment that would remain historic in the history of the internet.
The team intends to airdrop the first set of the collection to contributors of the Ethereum protocol. The limited edition includes the names of the team members embedded in the metadata of the first blocks of the POS Ethereum blockchain they helped to create.
Apart from ConsenSys, other Web3 companies are also preparing ahead of the Merge. For instance, LooksRare and Open Sea have openly expressed their support for the Ethereum POS post-merge.
The ConsenSys team prides itself on being believers in the Ethereum project, and they have constantly shown support for the continued development of the network.
In the last two years, the team demonstrated this support by driving some of the most significant elements of the Merge. Examples include proposing a spec for the Beacon Chain and verifying Eth 2 spec and its corresponding Deposit Smart Contract. And according to them, they will continue to contribute to the evolution of the network.
