- Cloudflare has begun rolling out programmable wallets that will allow AI agents to purchase APIs, data, and online services using stablecoins.
- The wallets will include customizable spending controls, allowing users to set budgets, merchant approvals, and transaction limits for AI agents.
- The launch expands Cloudflare’s AI commerce ecosystem and builds on Coinbase’s x402 micropayment protocol.
Cloudflare has taken another step toward enabling autonomous AI commerce by introducing programmable crypto wallets that will eventually allow AI agents to buy digital services, APIs, and online content using stablecoins.

The company announced the first phase of the rollout on Tuesday, allowing users to reserve a unique Cloudflare Wallet handle linked to their account. Additional functionality, including funding wallets with stablecoins and authorizing AI-powered purchases, is expected to arrive in the near future.
Two Wallet Types for Humans and AI
Cloudflare plans to offer two different wallet models.
The Account Wallet will allow individuals and businesses to deposit stablecoins, manage balances, and define spending policies.
The Virtual Wallet is designed specifically for AI agents, operating through API keys so software can independently make purchases within predefined limits established by its owner.
Users will be able to configure spending allowances, approved merchant lists, and maximum transaction amounts to keep AI agents from making unauthorized or excessive purchases.
Powered by Coinbase’s x402 Protocol
The wallets will integrate with x402, a payment protocol developed by Coinbase that enables machine-to-machine transactions.

Instead of requiring traditional accounts, subscriptions, or API keys, websites can return payment instructions whenever an AI agent requests access. The agent can then automatically complete the payment using stablecoins before receiving the requested service.
The technology is designed to support micropayments, allowing AI systems to purchase small amounts of computing power, data, or content on demand.
Expanding the AI Commerce Ecosystem
The wallet rollout builds on Cloudflare’s broader efforts to develop infrastructure for autonomous AI commerce.
The company previously partnered with Coinbase to launch the x402 Foundation and has also worked with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to establish standards for identifying trusted AI agents.
More recently, Cloudflare introduced its Monetization Gateway, giving developers tools to monetize digital services that AI systems can purchase automatically.
What It Means for the Industry
Cloudflare’s programmable wallets could become a foundational layer for the growing agentic AI economy, where software agents independently purchase computing resources, APIs, datasets, and digital content without constant human approval.
By combining stablecoin payments with configurable spending controls, the platform aims to make autonomous AI transactions both practical and secure while giving businesses new ways to monetize online services.
