Announcement
Yuga Labs will expand the non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem, the design agency behind Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), starting with a free mint and a skill-based game. The multi-step, one-of-a-kind drop begins on January 17 with a complimentary mint dubbed Sewer Passes for current members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
Anyone with a Sewer Pass, including those acquired from the secondary market, can play Dookey Dash. To validate their Sewer Passes and “convert them into a secret power source,” holders are allowed to play the game as many times as they choose, intending to get a score greater than 0.
When Dookey Dash gameplay ends on February 15, the outcomes of this bizarre process will become apparent. Sewer Pass holders will compete for the best score to receive their new power source, according to multiple tweets from BAYC on Wednesday. “The highest single-run score on your specific Sewer Pass and accompanying wallet that achieved the run will determine what it reveals.”
Owner’s Remarks
Additionally, the team suggested that whatever is given will “develop throughout 2023” and be applied in subsequent “battles.” This new NFT mint is a part of Yuga’s larger ambitions to create an interactive metaverse experience dubbed “The Otherside,” which was first introduced on December 21 with a hilarious and NSFW animated short titled “The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey.” The software would let users create playable characters from their existing NFTs and own land.
In an interview, last month, one of Yuga Labs’ co-founders, Wylie Aronow, stated that “all of the initiatives we have are deeply significant to us. Where we see the Otherside is at that intersection.”
Yuga Lab’s Roadmap
The co-founders of Yuga Labs claim that this year’s acquisition of multiple historical NFT projects, such as CryptoPunks, Meebits, and 10KTF, has helped the business advance in ways they hadn’t anticipated. Yuga Labs has granted its holders access to the intellectual property rights of its collections, enabling the usage of NFT characters in the branding of food trucks, TV shows, and musical ensembles. This has resulted in additional revenue streams and increased brand loyalty for holders. NFTs developed from this month-long experiment will later be used in a narrative experience named “Chapter 1,” according to the project’s road plan from Yuga Labs.
Bringing Community to the Otherside
The co-founders have attempted to create a shared ecosystem out of their NFT businesses’ storylines over the past few months. Players might own land and transform their current NFTs into playable characters on the Otherside, a gamified, interoperable metaverse experience that Yuga Labs unveiled in April. Yuga Labs generated around $320 million in direct sales by selling 55,000 Otherdeed NFTs associated with virtual land ownership.
Initial Stages of the Upcoming Projects
Aronow said that “All of our projects are essential to us. The junction is the location where we can see each Otherside.” A first look at the brand’s world-building platform was provided to over 4,600 gamers at an invite-only “First Trip” in July. The developers indicated in a litepaper that, at first, only Otherdeed holders and particular third-party developers would be able to participate in the narrative gameplay experience.
