Javier Millei, Pro Bitcoin Presidential Candidate, Wins Primary Election
An Argentine politician and presidential candidate who is an anarcho-capitalist has taken the lead in the country’s primary elections.
Out of the 90% of the votes counted, the pro-Bitcoin presidential candidate leads with 32% of the votes.
Behind him in the primary polls is the Together for Change (Juntos por el Cambio) party, following with just under 30% of the votes. The outcome of the primary elections determines the final candidates for the presidential election in October.
Javier Millei founded and led the Liberty Advances (La Liberta Avanza) coalition. The Liberty Advances party is known to describe itself as upholding views that are central-right and far-right.
Javier, a Donald Trump admirer, has declared his intention to dollarize the country and close down some ministries to save the country’s economy.
The Bitcoin-friendly politician has called for abolishing the country’s central bank, calling it a scam. He claimed that politicians scam Argentina through inflation because of fiat currency. His anti-central bank rallies resonate with several voters in Argentina, facing extremely high inflation.
“We are coming to defend against the looters of this system, which only benefits the political thieves,” Millei stated during a recent rally.
Despite his friendly opinion on Bitcoin, some of Javier Millei’s opinions are controversial.
He supports gun rights, celebrates gangsterism, and opposes abortion rights.
According to reports, he is against work-friendly labor laws and regards them as cancer. Despite his controversial ideas, his opinion on fighting corruption and fixing Argentina’s economy resonates with many voters, especially the youths.
“I like his ideas about freedom. His ideas don’t scare me. People are free to choose what they want,” said an Argentine interviewed by a media outlet.
While many support his policies to boost the country’s economy, his opponents say they are unrealistic. His proposal to dollarize the economy was criticized due to a past unfortunate outcome that resulted from the same proposal.
Crypto and Politics
It is a welcome surprise to find politicians worldwide supporting cryptocurrencies, including crypto-friendly policies in their manifesto and promoting Web3.
Within the past few years, crypto has found its way into politics, causing a significant change in ideologies.
There is a growing number of crypto voters waiting on a politician who will represent their policies and prioritize crypto in their administration.
U.S. presidential candidates like Ron DeSantis, Robert F Kennedy, and others are sharing their crypto-friendly policies. As Governor of Florida, De Santis generously encourages and sponsors crypto-friendly policies. Robert Kennedy equally promotes his plans to back the U.S. dollar to Bitcoin.
Both presidential candidates recognize the value of crypto in making a positive impact on the US economy. Politicians who used to criticize the use of cryptocurrency have begun to show interest. Former U.S. President, Donald Trump, who once stated his disinterest in Bitcoin or any crypto, currently has a portfolio worth $500k in Bitcoin.
Politicians like Javier Millei recognize the potential of crypto in the next few years. Cryptocurrency has become an integral matter in politics, from regulation to use.
