- Metalink has released a mobile app for its web platform.
- The company intends to incorporate NFT conversations into a proper web3 application.
- Traders will be able to chat, transact, and track NFT collections using the app.
Metalink, a non-fungible token (NFT) portfolio management and social platform, has launched its mobile application, claiming to have created a token-gated space where NFT collectors can interact with one another, aggregate announcements, and track the performance of their portfolios. Later this year, the app plans to launch transaction functionality, allowing users to buy, sell, and swap digital assets.
The all-in-one NFT app is now available on the Apple App Store, complementing Metalink’s website, which has already connected with 100,000 cryptocurrency wallets. The android version is expected to launch soon.
In August 2021, the platform was launched as a private chat app for CryptoPunks collectors and later expanded to include official chatrooms for other high-profile NFT projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Adam Ceresko, head of product at Metalink, stated, “Our goal was to make it incredibly easy for anyone to quickly and securely chat with holders of any collection in their portfolio. With Metalink, you connect your wallet and begin typing. One chat per collection for token holders only. There will be no Discord, Telegram, or verification bots.”
Metalink also announced a previously undisclosed $6 million seed round, with funding from a distinguished group of venture capital firms and Web3 personalities. Guy Oseary, Gary Vaynerchuk, The Sandbox founder Sebastien Borget, MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright, former Coinbase Chief Technology Officer Balaji Srinivasan, DJ Justin Blau, Social Capital, Arrington Capital, and Sound Ventures are among those who have invested.
NFT collectors such as Cozomo de Medici, SobyLife, Gmoney, Seedphase, Tony Herrera, Meltem Demirors, and Farokh, including corporate investors like Gemini Frontier Fund, Dapper Labs’ venture arm, BallerVC, and Genies’ Human Ventures, also provided funding.
The Metalink app is designed to streamline the complicated process of trading NFTs and building community. For each NFT collection created on the Ethereum network, the platform automatically generates a token-gated chatroom, which holders can access by connecting their wallets and verifying their assets.
“The vision is to eventually eliminate the need to communicate through Web2 messaging apps and buy and sell through multiple marketplaces,” said Metalink CEO Jake Udell.
Metalink also collects real-time NFT floor price and rarity trait data from multiple marketplaces to help holders accurately assess the value of their NFT portfolio and track price movements in real-time.
Furthermore, the platform provides aggregated announcements from NFT collection chatrooms, giving users a scrollable feed of all significant updates.
Several startups have been working on simplifying the process for NFT collectors, incorporating popular Web2 ideas into Web3. MultiversX, a blockchain focused on the metaverse, recently launched its xPortal “super app,” which combines elements of chat, finance, and artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, Floor, an NFT management app, recently acquired WGMI.io, an NFT data platform, to expand its portfolio management tools.
