Robinhood CEO’s X Account Hacked – Here Is Why a Fake VLAD Memecoin Spread Across Social Media

  • Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account appears to have been compromised to promote a fake VLAD memecoin.
  • The post falsely claimed the token was Robinhood Chain’s official mascot and would be listed in the Robinhood app.
  • Blockchain explorers quickly flagged the token as a potential scam, highlighting the growing risks of social media-driven crypto fraud.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev‘s X account appears to have been hacked after it published a post promoting a memecoin called VLAD, falsely presenting it as an official Robinhood project.

The post, published on Thursday, claimed that “Vladhood ($VLAD)” would serve as the official mascot of Robinhood Chain, would be listed inside the Robinhood app, and included a smart contract address for users to purchase the token.

The message immediately raised concerns because no similar announcement appeared on the official Robinhood or Robinhood Crypto X accounts.

Blockchain Data Raised Immediate Red Flags

Shortly after the post appeared, blockchain explorers identified the token as a potential scam.

Onchain data showed the contract had been deployed through PonsLaunchFactory, with thousands of transactions occurring shortly after launch as traders rushed to speculate on the token.

The rapid activity reflects a familiar pattern in crypto markets, where compromised social media accounts are used to promote fraudulent tokens before investors can verify their legitimacy.

Robinhood Chain Has Become a Memecoin Hub

The incident comes as Robinhood Chain continues attracting significant activity from memecoin traders.

Launched on July 1, the Ethereum Layer 2 network is built using the Arbitrum Orbit framework and has quickly become a popular destination for speculative token launches.

According to recent network data, Robinhood Chain processes roughly 6 million daily transactions and has generated approximately $9 billion in cumulative decentralized exchange volume, much of it driven by memecoin trading.

Investors Urged to Verify Official Announcements

The apparent compromise serves as another reminder that even verified social media accounts belonging to prominent executives can be exploited by attackers.

Crypto users are encouraged to confirm announcements through multiple official company channels before interacting with newly launched tokens or connecting wallets to unfamiliar websites.

Projects claiming exchange listings or official partnerships should always be verified through the company’s primary website or official corporate accounts rather than relying on a single social media post.

Social Media Scams Remain a Major Crypto Risk

High-profile account compromises have become one of the most common methods used to spread fraudulent crypto promotions.

Attackers frequently exploit the credibility of well-known executives and brands to generate rapid buying activity before victims realize the announcements are fake.

As blockchain adoption continues to expand, security experts continue urging investors to exercise caution, independently verify claims, and avoid making investment decisions based solely on viral social media posts.
