Overview
Phantom Galaxies is a fast-paced 3D ARPG mech combat game developed on the Polygon blockchain by Blowfish Studios – an indie gaming studio acquired by Animoca Brands in 2021. They aim to create one of the most refined triple-A blockchain games to date that appeals to both traditional gamers and web3 enthusiasts. Players will have total control of in-game assets because the avatars, mechs, and equipment will be made into NFTs. The game will be available on PC and Consoles.
The initial launch of Phantom Galaxies will take place on the Polygon blockchain. Still, Phantom Galaxies is being developed as an interoperable multi-chain game, where you will be able to store assets as NFTs on many different blockchains. Each of them will have its home galaxy so that players from different chains can interact with each other throughout the Phantom Galaxies universe. The rollout of the game on multiple chains will happen in phases and parallel with the advancement of the game’s storyline. There is some deep lore backstory that you can view in the lite paper on their official website, but it will also be revealed as you complete missions and quests in the actual game.
The public planet sale was made in Q2 of 2022 via three channels: the Forj Launchpad on May 26th, directly from Phantom Galaxies website on May 27th, and lastly, through OpenSea auctions on May 27th. They are set to release two Origin Series NFTs in Q4 of 2022: Generative Starfighters and Generative Avatars. Their current roadmap version extends into Q1 of 2023, when the game will have its early access beta launch.
Land Plots
In total, there are 110.000 asteroids and planet NFTs available. Their size of them also determines their rarity. They are:
- 70.000 Small Asteroids were initially purchased for $354 and currently have a floor of 0.24 ETH (around $400).
- 30.000 Large Asteroids were initially purchased for $825 and currently hold a floor price of 0.41 ETH (or around 700 dollars).
- 8.335 Small Planets initially purchased for $2,969 are now trading at a floor price of 1,48 ETH ($2400).
- 1.500 Medium Planets that were purchased for $16,500 and can now be obtained on the secondary market for 11 ETH (which is around $18.300).
- 165 Large Planets, initially sold for $150,000 each, but none of which are currently listed for sale.
Holders of these planets and asteroids will be rewarded with “emissions.” This is a passive yield for their native utility and governance token $ASTRAFER. These token emissions are very low for Small Asteroids (minimum 152 and maximum 246) and very generous for Large Planets, with minimum rewards at 64.587 and a top at 522.513. The rest of the NFTs in the collection have yields somewhere in between.
Each planet has unique coordinates and traits that range from humble pebbles to immense monoliths. Players can choose how they will govern their planet, how they customize it, what structures they build on it, and more. Holding a Planet also gives someone voting power in the Phantom Galaxies governance system. Actively participating in the game multiplies this power – a mechanism to incentivize players to remain engaged.
There is a lot more that is being developed in terms of the background lore and the overall gameplay, which I will briefly mention for the sake of clarity and shortness of this article. For example, players can go on missions and do various quests, as well as “operations,” which are the backbones of repeatable content. There will be PvE raids where players can put together a team or face the bosses alone. And yes, there will be PvP. Token
The governance token is called $ASTRAFER. It was listed on Coinmarketcap just recently, so there isn’t much to say about the price action yet; it is trading more or less without significant fluctuations at around $3.5 and has a market cap of 50 million dollars. It is worth noting that the token isn’t listed on any major exchanges yet, which represents a tremendous upward opportunity for the next gaming bull run. We have seen multiple tokens such as this one grow in price by n-x after the news of any CEX listing was announced in the previous gaming bull run in late 2021.
The supply is capped at a weirdly specific number of 888,077,888 tokens, with the exact distributions as follows:
- 13.5% was allocated to Story and Quest Emissions.
- 29.1 % of tokens will be emitted from planets (representing passive yield for planet holders).
- 10% reserved for liquidity pools and CEX listings.
- 15% given to the Blowfish team.
- 2.4% for Rogue Planets.
- The rest of the tokens – 30%, is put in reserves with not yet disclosed use case.
Over time, as player activity and the player base increase, the utility and governance token of Phantom Galaxies will be increasingly held by players.
Closing Thoughts
This might be the most visually stunning NFT-based game currently being developed. And these guys are taking it very seriously. Even on private sales alone, they managed to raise close to 20 million dollars by selling 7734 planets.
Besides good funding and a substantial social media presence, they have a large team in place, very detailed documentation, roadmap, and tokenomics, as well as their own YouTube channel where they mostly post trailers, announcements, guides, and AMAs.
Phantom Galaxies is one of the most anticipated blockchain games, as this game has many eyes on it, and many people are patiently waiting for its official release. So far, they have done everything right and are positioned well to succeed. There is now only one final test that they must face before making it, and that is attracting a large player base when the game is eventually released to the public.
From reading the lite paper, though, one gets the impression that they have this figured out quite well and that there will be enough content, engaging storylines, and other in-game activities to make the game excellent.
