  • The assistant provides a conversational interface and suggests relevant questions to ask about a PDF’s contents
  • Adobe plans to expand the assistant to other products after the beta, and is developing video AI models for creative tools

Adobe has launched a new artificial intelligence assistant for its PDF software. The assistant is currently in beta for Acrobat, with plans to expand it to Adobe Reader.

ICYMI: Adobe introduced an AI assistant for summarizing and querying PDF documents

Functionality

The AI assistant can generate summaries of long PDF documents to help users quickly understand their contents. It also features a conversational interface to answer questions about information in the documents.

The assistant suggests relevant questions users may want to ask about the file. It can generate citations to verify the sources of its answers. Additionally, it can produce text in various formats like emails, presentations, and reports based on document contents.

Context

Previously, services like ChatGPT offered PDF analysis features. But they required uploading the file rather than integrating natively into PDF software.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen says this tool helps “democratize access” to the trillions of PDFs in use. He envisions users easily getting summaries, asking questions, and correlating documents.

Future Plans

Adobe plans to release a subscription model for the assistant after the beta period. The company is also working on video AI models. It aims to apply these responsibly to creative tools and workflows.
