The Outage Spreads Across Apps

The outages first started around 10:20am ET and continued to cause problems over an hour later. In addition to the three main sites, other social apps like TikTok and Snapchat also faced issues likely related to the mass outage. With so many users and sites affected, it quickly became clear this was a major infrastructure failure impacting some of the internet’s most popular destinations.

Most Report Login Issues

According to the outage tracker Downdetector, over 566,700 reports flooded in complaining about problems accessing Facebook. Of these reports, 75% mentioned specific troubles logging into their accounts. Instagram also saw over 85,000 reports note issues for its users.

Users Vent Frustrations Online

With so many unable to access accounts, users understandably aired their grievances online. The hashtag #facebookdown quickly rose to the top of trending topics. Those still able to access Twitter documented their troubles logging back in across the various platforms. A video from user Brian Krassenstein showed him unsuccessfully attempting to login to Facebook.

The situation remains ongoing as the affected companies scramble to resolve the far-reaching problems. This developing story will be updated as more details emerge.
