- MakerDAO’s Co-founder and CEO shows interest in using Solana’s codebase for its new blockchain.
- Solana’s Co-founder has deterred the community from engaging in any attack against Ethereum.
Anatoly Yakovenko, the Co-founder of Solana, the acclaimed “Ethereum Killer”, has cautioned his community against harboring resentment toward Ethereum after MakerDAO’s chief executive officer and Co-founder praised the blockchain.
MakerDAO’s CEO is Considering Solana Codebase for NewChain
Rune Christensen, the CEO of MakerDAO, recently shared a positive view about Solana, suggesting that its codebase might be the best option for the new blockchain MakerDAO plans to build.
In a blog post, Christensen revealed the final phase of MakerDAO’s Endgame.
“The 5th and final phase of Endgame is the complete reimplementation of the entire Maker Protocol built natively on a new, stand-alone blockchain (codename NewChain).”
According to the forum post, after extensive research into available codebase options, he concluded that Solana has the most promising codebase for the NewChain.
Christensen highlighted the technical quality of Solana as one of the three reasons he finds the blockchain codebase compatible with MakerDAO’s Endgame final phase.
When Solana Mainnet launched in 2020, the crypto industry referred to it as Ethereum Killer, as it was an alternative option for users and builders to utilize without the cons of Ethereum slowing them down.
Solana’s codebase was engineered when there was sufficient knowledge of the failures of existing blockchains and methods to fix them in new blockchains. The knowledge of the challenges faced by existing blockchains like Ethereum paved the way for Solana to be engineered as a highly efficient blockchain. This benefit is necessary for the objective of the NewChain, as Christensen mentioned in the forum post.
“The Solana codebase is engineered well and benefits from being designed long after the bottlenecks and challenges of blockchains were already well understood, which fits nicely with the objective of NewChain,” Christensen stated.
Dune Christensen also admired the resilience of the developer community after the FTX crash, an incident that affected the blockchain and the crypto industry.
The community’s belief in Solana is a force that sows long-term commitment and an endless talent pool to access.
Christensen further stated that the NewChain may be instrumental in serving as a bridge that connects Solana and Ethereum.
“Because we benefit from the core Solana ecosystem being resilient, it would be strategically beneficial to ensure there is a Two-Stage Gravity Bridge from NewChain to Solana alongside the bridge from NewChain to Ethereum.”
Solana’s Co-Founder Cautions Community
Christensen’s interest in Solana sparks a controversy between Solana and the Ethereum community. Solana users celebrate the revelation while mocking the Ethereum community.
The tension between the communities of Solana and Ethereum has been brewing for years. Solana’s Co-founder once commented on Ethereum’s slow speed on a news channel.
Contrary to the banter expected, Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana’s Co-founder, cautioned the community against harboring resentment towards Ethereum.
“Maker considering Solana’s tech is a win for open source, I really hope that people in the community don’t use this as some cudgel to attack Ethereum,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter.)
He added that Solana was built based on Ethereum’s research and development.
“Ethereum is awesome. Solana wasn’t built in a vacuum, and tons and tons of things that make Solana special were built based on Ethereum’s research and development.”
