• President-elect Donald Trump is meeting with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on Monday
• The meeting will likely discuss personnel appointments for Trump’s second administration
• It marks the first time Trump and Armstrong have met since the election
President-elect Donald Trump is set to meet with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on Monday to discuss potential crypto regulations and appointments in Trump’s administration, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The Meeting
This will be the first known meeting between Trump and Armstrong since the election. Trump, once a crypto skeptic, has become a vocal supporter of the industry after seeing its growth and potential.
Earlier this year, Trump said he would create a presidential advisory council on bitcoin and crypto to develop transparent regulatory guidance if elected. Armstrong has already publicly recommended SEC commissioner Hester Peirce to chair the SEC under Trump.
Coinbase and Crypto PAC Spending
Coinbase spent over $100 million on political action committees (PACs) leading up to the election, primarily through a crypto industry PAC called Fairshake. Fairshake spent just over $40 million targeting Congressional candidates, according to FEC filings.
Potential Outcomes
The meeting could signal greater openness from the Trump administration on crypto regulations. With Coinbase’s PAC spending and Trump’s recent embrace of the industry, the two seem aligned in shaping policies supportive of crypto innovation.
