BitGo Connects Self-Custody Wallets to Hyperliquid – Here Is What It Means

  • BitGo now allows eligible clients with self-custody hot wallets to connect directly to Hyperliquid through WalletConnect.
  • Following a one-time activation, clients can place, modify and close Hyperliquid orders without signing each trading action through BitGo or making a separate onchain gas payment for every order.
  • The capability is available now to eligible clients but excludes the U.S., U.K., Canada and other jurisdictions where leveraged digital asset derivatives are restricted.

BitGo has introduced direct connectivity between its self-custody hot wallets and Hyperliquid, giving eligible institutional clients another way to access onchain perpetual markets.

The integration uses WalletConnect, allowing clients to connect an existing BitGo wallet rather than creating a separate wallet specifically for Hyperliquid.

After completing a required one-time activation, traders can place, modify and close orders without providing a new BitGo wallet signature for every action.

They also do not need to make a separate onchain gas payment for each order, although Hyperliquid trading and other applicable fees may still apply.

BitGo Keeps Existing Wallet Controls in Place

The integration is designed to preserve the controls institutions already use with their BitGo wallets.

Deposits and withdrawals requiring a BitGo wallet transaction will continue to follow the wallet’s configured approval policies, including multi-user approval requirements where applicable.

Once funds are available on Hyperliquid, however, clients can manage their orders and positions without returning to BitGo to approve every trading action.

“Institutional traders should not have to build a new wallet stack every time they access onchain venue,” BitGo CEO and co-founder Mike Belshe said.

Belshe said the connectivity gives clients a more efficient way to access Hyperliquid while maintaining their existing controls over wallet access and fund transfers.

WalletConnect Links BitGo With Hyperliquid

WalletConnect provides the permissioned connection between a client’s BitGo wallet and Hyperliquid.

Private keys are not exposed through the connection, according to BitGo.

The approach allows institutions to maintain their existing wallet infrastructure while connecting it to an onchain trading venue.

Hyperliquid is best known for its perpetual futures and spot markets, which generate billions of dollars in daily trading volume.

Access Remains Restricted in Several Markets

The Hyperliquid connectivity is available now to eligible existing BitGo self-custody hot wallet clients.

However, the service is not available to clients in the United States, United Kingdom or Canada.

BitGo also excludes other jurisdictions where access to leveraged digital asset derivatives is restricted.

The integration is part of BitGo’s broader effort to connect its institutional wallet infrastructure with additional blockchain networks and onchain applications through a unified platform.
