Bitcoin OGs Sold at $100K, Scaramucci Says – Here Is What Changed

  • Anthony Scaramucci says $100,000 became a major selling level for longtime Bitcoin holders, contributing to increased market pressure.
  • SkyBridge says Bitcoin ownership is gradually shifting from early holders toward institutions, financial advisers and family offices.
  • Scaramucci also expects AI agents and blockchain technology to converge as autonomous transactions become more common.

Bitcoin’s move through $100,000 triggered significant selling from some of its earliest investors, according to SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci.

Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Scaramucci said many holders who had owned BTC for 10 to 15 years viewed $100,000 as a “magic number” and decided to take profits. That selling arrived as expectations for a Bitcoin “super cycle” began colliding with concerns that the cryptocurrency’s traditional four-year market cycle was still intact.

Bitcoin Ownership Is Shifting

Scaramucci argued that expectations of another cyclical downturn eventually became partly self-fulfilling. As investors anticipated more selling, additional holders exited positions, contributing to a broader cascade.

SkyBridge partner John Darsie believes the transition could ultimately benefit Bitcoin. Early holders and longtime crypto believers are gradually selling portions of their enormous positions while institutions, family offices and financial advisers increasingly add Bitcoin to diversified portfolios.

This changing ownership structure could help reduce Bitcoin’s volatility over time and strengthen its position as a mainstream store of value.

Scaramucci Sees Crypto and AI Converging

Scaramucci also expects blockchain technology to become important to the emerging agentic AI economy. As autonomous AI systems begin conducting transactions independently, he believes those payments will most likely take place over blockchain networks.

Darsie pointed to another connection between the industries: Bitcoin miners increasingly expanding into AI computing infrastructure.

For Bitcoin, the bigger transition may therefore extend beyond price cycles. Ownership is becoming more institutional while blockchain infrastructure could find new demand from AI, fintech and other emerging technologies.
