Alphabet’s SpaceX Stake Hits $94 Billion – Here Is Why Google’s Biggest Bet Just Became Public

  • Alphabet has disclosed that its SpaceX investment is now valued at approximately $94 billion, following the company’s public market debut.
  • About $80 billion of the stake is locked up in the short term, with another $14.1 billion restricted until the third quarter of 2027.
  • The filing marks the first time Alphabet has officially valued its SpaceX holdings using public market prices.

Alphabet has officially revealed the size of one of the most successful strategic investments in corporate history, disclosing that its stake in SpaceX is now worth approximately $94 billion.

The figure appeared in Alphabet’s latest SEC filing following SpaceX’s public market debut, providing investors with the first official look at the investment based on public market valuations rather than private estimates.

The disclosure highlights how a relatively modest investment made a decade ago has grown into one of Alphabet’s most valuable non-core assets.

A Decade-Long Investment Pays Off

Alphabet first invested in SpaceX in 2015, partnering with Fidelity to provide funding for Elon Musk‘s rapidly growing aerospace company.

At the time, SpaceX was valued at roughly $12 billion, and the investment was largely viewed as a strategic move to support future satellite internet infrastructure.

Over the following decade, SpaceX expanded its launch business, developed the Starlink satellite network, and continued advancing its Starship program, dramatically increasing the company’s valuation.

Although Alphabet’s ownership percentage gradually declined through subsequent fundraising rounds, the value of its remaining stake continued to climb.

Most Shares Remain Locked Up

According to the filing, Alphabet cannot immediately sell most of its SpaceX holdings.

Approximately $80 billion worth of shares is subject to standard post-IPO lockup restrictions, while another $14.1 billion remains locked until the third quarter of 2027.

These restrictions are designed to limit large insider sales following a public listing and help maintain orderly trading in newly listed companies.

SpaceX Continues to Attract Institutional Interest

The filing also reflects SpaceX’s growing importance among institutional investors.

Following its public debut, major shareholders such as Alphabet, Fidelity, and other early investors remain significant long-term owners while operating under customary lockup agreements.

The updated valuation provides one of the clearest indications yet of how dramatically SpaceX’s market value has increased since its early funding rounds.

A Landmark Strategic Investment

Alphabet’s latest disclosure underscores how long-term investments in emerging technologies can create substantial shareholder value.

Rather than serving as a short-term financial investment, the original SpaceX stake was intended to complement Alphabet’s broader ambitions around connectivity and next-generation technology infrastructure.

Now valued at approximately $94 billion, the investment stands as one of the largest unrealized corporate equity positions in the technology sector, highlighting the extraordinary growth of SpaceX over the past decade.
