  • Bitcoin briefly climbed above $85,000 for the first time since January, gaining more than 5% over 24 hours after trading near $75,000 on Sept. 15.
  • More than $750 million in crypto positions were liquidated over 24 hours, including $648.3 million in shorts, while Bitcoin accounted for $360.7 million of total liquidations.
  • Ethereum gained around 5.6% to $2,717, XRP rose 7.8% to $1.49 and Solana climbed 7.2% to $115.75 as the broader crypto market rallied.

Bitcoin briefly pushed above $85,000 on Monday for the first time since January, extending its recovery from last week’s market selloff.

BTC had traded near $75,000 on Sept. 15 before recovering above $80,000 on Friday. A gain of more than 5% over the past 24 hours then pushed the cryptocurrency through $85,000.

The rebound leaves Bitcoin down less than 3% year to date, although it remains approximately 32.5% below its October all-time high near $126,000.

The move came alongside gains in Asian and European equities as improving risk appetite spread across global markets.

Short Liquidations Accelerate Bitcoin Rally

The rapid move higher triggered significant liquidations across crypto derivatives markets.

More than $750 million in crypto positions were liquidated over a 24-hour period, according to CoinGlass.

Short positions accounted for $648.3 million of that total, suggesting traders betting on further declines were heavily affected by the rebound.

Bitcoin positions alone generated $360.7 million in liquidations.

The largest individual liquidation occurred on Binance’s BTCUSDT market and was valued at approximately $11.3 million.

Other major cryptocurrencies also rallied. Ethereum gained around 5.6% to $2,717, XRP climbed 7.8% to $1.49 and Solana rose 7.2% to $115.75.

Lower Oil Prices Support Risk Appetite

The crypto rebound came as Brent crude declined around 1.5% on Monday.

Capital.com analyst Daniela Hathorn said Saudi Arabia expects to restore approximately half of the damaged capacity on its East-West pipeline within days.

Technology and semiconductor stocks led gains across Asian markets, while European equities opened higher and U.S. stock futures also moved into positive territory.

Hathorn said lower oil prices were helping improve investor appetite for risk.

Markets were also watching potential diplomatic developments surrounding the UN General Assembly after President Donald Trump indicated a willingness to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Fed Rate Concerns Remain

Despite the improved market sentiment, interest rates remain a key source of uncertainty.

The Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points last week, and markets are now pricing roughly a 56% probability of another increase in October, according to Hathorn.

The U.S. two-year Treasury yield was trading around 4.75%.

Capital.com analyst Kyle Rodda also pointed to Thursday’s White House meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as another potential market catalyst.

For Bitcoin, the combination of stronger global risk sentiment and heavy short liquidations has helped accelerate its rebound from last week’s $75,000 level.
