- MultiversX has introduced a two-factor authentication feature for MetaMask via its new MultiversX Snap.
- The integration aims to protect users from phishing and fund theft by embedding 2FA directly into the blockchain protocol.
- Over 300 million in digital assets were lost to crypto scams last year, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures.
MultiversX has launched an innovative security feature for MetaMask users, integrating two-factor authentication (2FA) to bolster protection against phishing and unauthorized fund access. This new addition, known as MultiversX Snap, connects users to its blockchain while significantly enhancing their security protocols.
Enhanced Security via MetaMask Snaps
MetaMask Snaps are externally audited enhancements designed to expand the functionality of the MetaMask wallet. MultiversX Snap specifically introduces a layer of security that has not been traditionally available to MetaMask users, embedding a 2FA solution directly within the blockchain’s protocol. This development ensures that the security feature is compatible with all applications and wallets in the MultiversX ecosystem.
Beniamin Mincu, the CEO of MultiversX, sees this innovation as a pivotal advancement for the industry. “This integration removes the hurdles associated with multichain exploration and demonstrates the robustness, cost-efficiency, and scalability of MultiversX,” he explained.
Tackling Crypto Scams with Advanced Technology
The urgency for advanced security measures like 2FA has been underscored by the significant losses experienced due to crypto scams. In 2023 alone, phishing scams affected 324,000 users, leading to over $300 million in losses. MultiversX responded by developing an onchain 2FA system called the Guardians to combat these threats effectively.
This system was rigorously tested through community initiatives, such as EGLDHeist, where a wallet seed phrase was deliberately exposed to the public. Despite this vulnerability, the funds remained secure, showcasing the robust protection offered by the onchain 2FA feature.
MultiversX’s Commitment to Education and Innovation
In addition to enhancing security, MultiversX is committed to fostering education within the blockchain space. In partnership with Cornell University, they launched an educational program targeting underserved college students. This initiative provided 100 students with the opportunity to earn a certificate in blockchain technology, supported by small, interactive groups to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.
