The creators of the popular game Fortnite listed an NFT-powered game on 16 September, Blankos Block Party. The game is the first-ever NFT-powered game on the Epic Games Store.
Epic Games confirms that this is just the beginning. The platform has many NFT -themed games waiting to be listed. The Developers of Gala Games announced that Grit will also be its first NFT game on Epic Games.
Blankos Block Party has millions of users. The game was a tech demo that attracted gamers’ attention. The developer team is advancing the actual game to use NFTs for in-app purchases. Since its launch, the game has had a lot of celebrity partnerships, for example, Atari.
What Really is Blankos Block Party?
Blankos Block Party is a free-to-play and P2E game. The game revolves around the characters “Blankos”, digital vinyl toys that are animated. It also has a block theme and allows for multiplayer. Several people around the world can play the game at the same time. You can use the blankos to play the game. You can also Upgrade the blankos and use them to play games like Minecraft, shooting games, racing games, and even tag.
Originally, the game was for a tech demo. However, owing to its popularity, the team had to make it a fully-fledged game. An advantage of the game is that it has a metaverse, which requires no coding experience for you to interact with. The official website states,
“Play Blankos your way. Go on solo quests and unlock new rewards to trick out your Blankos, or grab a squad and compete in epic block parties. Available right now on Windows 10 for free.”
Another advantage is that everything you buy is an NFT, including the blankos. You can trade it for real-world cash, unlike traditional games. According to the game’s official website,
“The things you earn and buy in Blankos are yours to own. That’s right – each Blanko is an NFT which means that they hold value and can be sold and bought on our marketplace. Stay tuned for news about the release of our marketplace during the Beta!”
For now, the game is only available on Mac and Windows PC. The team promised to work on an android version.
Note: Having an NFT is not a necessity to play the game. However, you can purchase or acquire one as you play. The game is the same as the one on the original website but now with NFTs. It will launch on 28 September.
Are the Markets Affecting NFT Games and Developers?
Even though the markets are down, game developers seem to be doing well. NFTs are not as useless as many people think. Instead of using traditional gaming rewards, developers are now using NFTs to allow for GameFi. Truth is, even a 9-year-old can be a millionaire now, thanks to NFTs and GameFi. NFTs are transforming the gaming space.
