- Chapter 2 launches at a cheaper $450 price point and aims for wider distribution, building on Saga’s lessons of rewarding early adopters to drive mainstream adoption
Solana Mobile announced its second web3 smartphone, Chapter 2, earlier this week. The new phone is seeing massive demand, selling out its first week of preorders in just 24 hours.
Chapter 2 Sees Record Preorders
In the first day after announcing Chapter 2, Solana Mobile received over 25,000 preorders. By the 30 hour mark, preorders reached 30,000 units. This surpasses 12 months worth of sales for Solana’s first phone, Saga.
Raj Gokal, co-founder of Solana, said the new phone is creating a big opportunity for crypto developers. It gives them a direct channel to reach dedicated crypto users.
Saga’s Slow Start and Viral Growth
Solana’s first smartphone Saga struggled with weak sales when it launched at $1,000. The price was later cut to $599, but demand remained low.
Saga sales exploded overnight when dog memecoin BONK offered 30 million free tokens to Saga owners. The reward was worth more than the phone itself.
Following this, other crypto apps offered similar incentives. This created viral demand for Saga as people wanted the rewards.
Chapter 2 Targets Wider Distribution
While Saga was limited, Chapter 2 aims for mass market appeal. It launches at just $450, significantly cheaper than Saga.
Chapter 2 will lack Saga’s genesis token for redeeming rewards. But Solana plans to build on the lessons from Saga.
With sponsorships from major crypto apps, Chapter 2 will continue rewarding early adopters. The goal is driving further mainstream adoption.
