The British Museum is partnering with Sandbox to create digital collectibles reflective of the collections of historical artifacts the museum has housed since its establishment in 1753.
The Sandbox is a blockchain-based virtual world and gaming platform that enables users to create, play, and monetize their own games and experiences using user-generated content and assets.
The British Museum was the first public national museum ever constructed and upholds its value as a museum of the world, for the world. The British Museum wants to push the boundary of this mantra and is partnering with the Sandbox to do so by bringing history into the metaverse.
“We are very excited to collaborate with the British Museum to share its incredible collections to new audiences in the metaverse. This is a great opportunity for The Sandbox players, regardless of where they are, to learn about and enjoy the amazing collections of human history, art, and culture in the British Museum.” – Sebastien Borget, Sandbox Cofounder and COO.
Sandbox is working with the official licensing partner of the British Museum, laCollection, to create immersive experiences that will allow anyone anywhere in the world to discover and learn about museum artifact collections.
