One of the world’s largest automakers, Nissan, is launching some car NFTs for a new NFT game called Torque Drift 2, which will run on the Polygon Side-chain.
About the NFT
Torgue Drift 2, a game by Grease Monkey Games, is an Australian-based multi-platform video game studio and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, which focus on Motosport. And according to them:
“Greece Monkey Games and Nissan will release at least 15 unique Nissan models within the next 12 months, with various variants available in Torque Drift 2.”
A total of five variants will be available for the first official Nissan NXT 180SX, including seven variants of the cult-favorite Sil80 and 370Z models, including a 50th-anniversary edition.
It is expected that the NFTs will be released within the next 12 months, and the project claims that they will be the first Nissan, NISMO, Infiniti, and Datsun NFTs to be officially licensed.
As mentioned earlier, the game will run on the Polygon Side-chain, which has become one of the most popular and oldest Layer 2 extensions on the Ethereum Blockchain.
According to Urvit Goel, Head of Global Games Bussiness Development at Polygon Studios, “Nissan’s entry into Web3 with Torque Drift 2 represents one of the most exciting and significant implementations of NFTs and blockchain technology by a leading global brand.”
This Isn’t the First Time for Car Manufacturers
It is important to note that since the advent of NFTs and the Metaverse, various global brands have demonstrated their interest in the space with the announcement of crypto-related projects. This includes Mercedes, which launched a series of NFT drops in the spring, and Hyundai, which launched about 10,000 NFTs. Earlier this year, Lamborghini also announced the launch of its space-themed NFT collection.
Estee Lauder launched a Digital Asset Assistant Internship on Tuesday that showed brands building entire teams beyond senior personnel who are experimenting.
The game claims that the Nissan NFTs will be a replica, with the project stating:
“Gree Monkey Games is working closely with Nissan Motor Company to ensure that vehicles and vehicles parts NFTs are presented as accurately as possible in a true-to-life form.”
With this partnership, the game studio will have access to all Nissan, Datsun, and Infiniti vehicle models from the past to the present.
Much care is taken to ensure the accuracy of 3D models, engine variants, and rare NISMO parts, down to the vehicle trim options, color options, horsepower, and performance characteristics.
As such, NFTs are evolving from several angles, which are still experimental. As stated by a Nissan Motor spokesperson, “Torque Drift 2 interactive racing is sure to build on the legacy that Grease Monkey Games developed in the first title, Torque Drift which it has evolved from.
Aaron Potter, founder and managing director of Grease Monkey Games, returned the compliment: “Nissan is synonymous with drifting and motorsport, full stop.”
Animoca Brands entered the metaverse only last year and has expanded to include numerous projects, including this new NFT game.
