China’s Nanjing University has reportedly launched the country’s first primary dedicated to studying Metaverse-related knowledge. The East China-based university explained that the new push aims to offer metaverse-related courses to help more students meet their metaverse business needs.
Nanjing University to Train Metaverse Workers
A growing number of universities and institutions worldwide are incorporating the Metaverse as an element of their courses. East China’s Nanjing University presents one of the country’s first Metaverse majors in its latest foray into the Metaverse.
Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology has renamed one of its significant departments following the upgrade. The Department of Information Engineering changed to the “Department of Metaverse Engineering.” The aim is to integrate more Metaverse-related courses into the university.
Pan Zhigeng, the Dean of the Department, said that the move would allow the organization to integrate with metaverse-related businesses. This will identify the needs of these groups and train more talent to fill the roster.
Zhigeng also mentions that students will be eligible to serve in three different areas. This includes Smart He Healthcare, Smart Education, and Digital He Tourism. The department will establish three working groups to advance the university in these areas, Metaverse Lab, Smart Weather Lab, and Smart Medical Lab.
Metaverse and Education
Other universities are using the Metaverse as a tool to foster student relationships and integration. Another university, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, announced the construction of an online metaverse campus called Methkust.
This allows remote students to attend classes together as if they were in the same place. A staff member at the university says this gives him better results than a 2D video app. He announced that the University of Tokyo would offer a metaverse engineering course later this year.
Meta has announced its involvement in creating ten online Metaverse campuses in partnership with a Metaverse construction company called Victoryxr. It is part of the Immersive Learning Project. The $150 million initiative aims at bringing the Metaverse into the educational environment.
Metaverse Jobs Linked to the Study
AR and VR researchers are already integral to top universities and big tech companies. The rise of the Metaverse will need more brainpower in the field.
1. Metaverse Research Scientist
A metaverse research scientist’s job is to develop basic digital models of the natural world so companies can engage their customers. Metaverse research scientists need to build a theory of everything that the world is digitally visualized. This architecture forms the foundation upon which all other use cases are made: gaming, Advertising, Factory Quality Control, and Connected Health.
2. Metaverse Planner
A Metaverse Planner’s role is to drive a strategic portfolio of opportunities from proof-of-concept to pilot to deployment. That means identifying market opportunities, building business cases, influencing engineering roadmaps, and developing key metrics.
3. Ecosystem Developer
Ecosystem developers coordinate with partners and governments to ensure that the various features created are possible at scale. They drive government investment in infrastructure and revitalize significant actors in their community. They enable Metaverse customers to use virtual items in a variety of experiences.
4. Metaverse Safety Manager
The primary role is privacy—inworld ID authentication. Safety managers can guide and oversee the digital world’s design, validation, and mass production stages.
