  • Klaytn undergoes the v1.11.0 hardfork.
  • This network upgrade introduces new APIs and a feature called Live Pruning to enable more efficient node communication.

Klaytn Network, a service-based L1, has just undergone a new hardfork update with v1.11.0. As a hardfork, v1.11.0 brings changes that will not be compatible with previous versions.

The mainnet for Klaytn’s new forked version is known as Cypress, and this upgrade features similarities to the Ethereum Shanghai hardfork. Scheduled to take place on August 28, 2023, v1.11.0 primarily aims to reduce Klaytn gas fees and introduce enhancements to improve network functionality.

v1.11.0  Changes

New APIs have been added to make interacting with the network programmatically easier. These APIs provide additional ways to manage rewards, resend transactions, and check the status of hardforks. Also, certain restrictions have been implemented to prevent excessive resource usage, ensuring a more stable and reliable network.

Furthermore, a new feature called Live Pruning has been introduced, allowing the network to more efficiently manage historical block data in real-time. Pruning a blockchain involves removing outdated, irrelevant, and unnecessary data sets or underperforming nodes from the network to improve the state of the blockchain, allowing it to run more efficiently while consuming fewer resources.

Additionally, support for a database technology called RocksDB has been added, enabling nodes to share data more efficiently. Finally, various bug fixes have been implemented, addressing issues related to node startup failures, API behavior, and reward distribution logic.

Conclusion

This upgrade is vital for the long-term health and functionality of the Klaytn network. The v1.11.0 hardfork is a way to improve Kalytn performance and make the network run more efficiently.
