- Fidelity Investments recently listed proposed spot bitcoin ETFs like ARKB, HODL, BTCO, and BTCW on its app, suggesting SEC approval may be close.
- Cboe also listed some of the same proposed ETFs, further indicating imminent SEC approval.
- Not all proposed bitcoin ETFs were listed, but omission doesn’t mean they won’t be eventually. Approval expected between 4-6pm ET on January 10th.
Fidelity Investments recently listed several proposed spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on its web app, including from ARK 21Shares, VanEck, WisdomTree, and Invesco. This could indicate that these ETFs are close to being approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Fidelity App Showed Template Pages for the ETFs
The Fidelity app showed basic template pages for the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), Vaneck Bitcoin Trust ETF (HODL), Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCO), Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC), and WisdomTree Bitcoin ETF (BTCW). The pages included stock disclaimers and blank charts. Shares cannot yet be purchased.
Other Proposed Bitcoin ETFs Not Listed
Not all proposed spot bitcoin ETFs were listed on the Fidelity app, including the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBTC), BitWise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Trust (FBTC), and Hashdex Bitcoin ETF. The omission doesn’t necessarily mean these ETFs won’t eventually be listed.
Cboe Also Listed Some of the Same ETFs
In another positive sign, the Cboe BZX stock exchange listed ARKB, HODL, BTCO, BTCW, EZBC, and FBTC on the same day. However, these funds also aren’t yet available for trading on Cboe.
SEC Approval Could Be Imminent
The listings provide further evidence that SEC approval of spot bitcoin ETFs may be imminent. On January 9th, the SEC’s Twitter account was briefly compromised to falsely announce ETF approval. Approval is now expected between 4pm-6pm ET on January 10th according to analyst Eric Balchunas.
The upcoming decision on bitcoin ETF approval has generated much anticipation in the crypto community. The SEC listings are the latest indication that some long-awaited bitcoin ETFs may soon become a reality.
