What is Axie Infinity?
Axe Infinity is a Blockchain-based game that incorporates the collection and battle of fantasy creatures called Axies.
To understand better what Axie Infinity is, it’s important to be familiar with the general concepts behind blockchain-based games. In particular, you should be aware of Cryptokitties, one of the first blockchain-based games and was very popular when it launched.
Just like Cryptokitties, Axie Infinity has a procedurally generated list of “crypto creatures” that are bred and then traded at the players’ will. The main mechanics for Axie Infinity include breeding, fighting, and collecting (and trading) Axies.
Breeding Axies is the first step to playing Axie Infinity. To breed an Axie you need to take two Axies of different colors into the “breeding den”. The selected Axies will then begin to interact with each other to produce a third, different color Axie. The length of the breeding process depends on the rarity and generation level of the parents.
Generation Levels determine how long it takes to breed a new Axie. For example, generation 0 will have a quick incubation time, while Generation 3 will take much longer. You can check out all of this information on their website.
Axies are classified into three separate colors: red, blue, and green. In addition to the different color Axies, spooky Axies can be obtained from rare monster eggs. The type of an Axie will determine what moves they have in battle. For example, a red Axie may use fire-based attacks while a green Axie may use grass-based attacks.
The battles in Axie Infinity are similar to those found in other turn-based strategy games. Each player selects 3 of their 6 Axies to send into battle. Then each Axie will attack, defend, or support depending on what moves they’ve done. Finally, players win when all of the enemy Axies have been defeated.
As in other blockchain-based games, Axie Infinity has a market where players can buy and sell their Axies. The market prices for Axies float based on demand and availability. If there aren’t many green Axies available, they will become more expensive to purchase.
Axie Infinity’s marketplace allows players to trade their Axies for ETH.

About AXS
AXS is the governance token for Axie Infinity. AXS gained the lead for the best-performing gaming token of 2021 with an outstanding move from $0.5 in January to an all-time high of $159.76 in November 2021. Thanks to its major support from well-known personalities like Mark Cuban.
Holders of the AXS token get to direct and vote for the game’s overall quality of life experience. This makes it unique as game developers take total control of the game’s direction. But with AXS holders, the community can help reshape the universe of Axies.
As of this writing, its current market cap is at $4,573,179,937 and can still stretch as long as the economy circulates. But, speaking of circulation, it has a total limited supply of 270,000,000 unlike its baby sibling – SLP – with an unlimited supply.
In total since November 2020, the token gained a massive 51,545% gain. If the developers keep on updating the game with the holders contributing first-hand to the health of Axie Infinity, everyone involved in the monster battle RPG will make a fortune.
About SLP
SLP (Smooth Love Potion) is the in-game currency for Axie Infinity. This token represents everything within the game’s market, including Axies to breed and buy boosters. To begin breeding a new Axie, you will need 100 SLP. If you need a second breed, that costs 200 SLP, 300 for breeding a third, 599 to create a fourth, 800 to give birth to a fifth and 1,300 SLP for the sixth. The seventh final one requires 2,100 SLP to begin.
The fixed cost is to minimize inflation and exploitation within the marketplace. SLP is also responsible for the boom in blockchain gaming technology, showing proof to the mainstream crowd that anyone can earn from the game as long as they keep playing.
Initially, you can earn SLP through both PvE and PvP. However, you can now only earn it through PvP. This caused a controversy within the community as the chance to earn money from playing feels like a pay-to-win system now rather than just casually strolling through the world to collect SLP. Additionally, playtime is now limited to stop players from “over-farming” in the game.
You can earn SLP either by buying tokens from your favorite crypto exchange or when you play the game directly.
SLP has a market cap of $1,164,333,410 as of this writing with an unlimited supply. Its overall performance is generally good, especially from January to July 2021, reaching an amazing $0.36 as its all-time high. However, it showed signs of struggle from December 2021 to January 2022 as it hit the all-time low of $0.009. But, as of February 6 to February 11, 2022, it spiked up again to 150% after the developers announced new tokenomics for the game.
Should You Buy AXS and SLP?
It’s up to you to decide whether you want to invest in the game or not. So why wouldn’t you place your trust in one of the most successful blockchain games of 2021, right? However, SLP has shown its risky, volatile actions, especially after the major slump from July 2021 to January 2022, with a decrease of beyond 200%. AXS seems like a safer choice, but even so, it can lead to disaster if ever there comes a time when the game becomes stale and unapproachable, especially for new players.
As a game, Axie Infinity puts in a solid foundation as more than just a money-earning source of entertainment. Generally, the gameplay is good with its simple monster battle mechanics and complexity in its Axie breeding. Sure, having the capital to play the game is expensive, but you can always apply as a scholar, so you do the gameplay for the owner while earning a fraction of your work.
Truly, Axie Infinity paved the way for NFT gaming. The future of blockchain video games still looks uncertain, but it will be interesting if such a system alone will reshape the video game industry.
