US Mint Releases Trump $1 Coin – Here Is What Collectors Need to Know

  • The U.S. Mint has released a new 2026 $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
  • Collectors can purchase 25-coin rolls for $61 or 100-coin bags for $154.50 directly from the U.S. Mint.
  • A limited group of 250,000 coins carries a special “July 4th” privy mark, making them a potentially sought-after version for collectors.

The U.S. Mint has officially released its 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin, placing the sitting president’s portrait on legal-tender American currency as the country celebrates its 250th anniversary.

The Philadelphia-minted coin is available through the U.S. Mint in 25-coin rolls priced at $61 and 100-coin bags priced at $154.50. The coins carry a circulating finish and remain legal tender, although the Mint notes that the coins packaged in its collector rolls and bags have not previously been placed into circulation.

Trump Appears on the New $1 Coin

The front of the coin features a portrait of Trump designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and inspired by an official White House photograph.

The inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026.”

The reverse carries the Presidential Seal, including an eagle with a shield marked “250” to recognize the United States’ Semiquincentennial. The reverse design was originally created by former Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro.

Despite its golden appearance, the dollar contains no actual gold. Its composition is 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel.

250,000 Coins Carry a Special July 4th Mark

Collectors have another detail to watch for.

The Mint struck 250,000 Trump $1 coins at the Philadelphia Mint on July 4 with a special “July 4th” privy mark. Those coins have been randomly distributed throughout the rolls and bags sold by the Mint, meaning buyers will not necessarily know whether they received one until opening their purchase.

The special issue could become one of the more closely watched versions of the coin because of its limited quantity and connection to the country’s 250th anniversary.

Trump Coin Comes With an Unusual Historical Twist

The Mint says the coin was authorized under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which allows the Treasury Secretary to issue a special $1 coin during 2026 celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Trump is not the first sitting president to appear on U.S. coinage. Calvin Coolidge appeared alongside George Washington on a commemorative half dollar issued in 1926.

The Trump dollar is different, however, because it is part of the Mint’s 2026 circulating collectible coin program rather than a conventional precious-metal commemorative issue.

With the new coin now available and only 250,000 carrying the July 4th privy mark, collectors could be paying particularly close attention to which versions turn up in rolls and bags.
