World Mobile, a decentralized wireless network operator, has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to provide affordable and reliable internet access to underserved areas. By completing field tests of its Decentralized Wireless (DeWi) technology in Kenya, Mozambique, and Nigeria, World Mobile is one step closer to a full rollout across the African continent.

Expanding Connectivity in Underserved Areas

World Mobile offers affordable and reliable internet access to rural areas that traditionally lack connectivity. World Mobile conducted field tests in Kenya and Mozambique utilizing TV White Space equipment, harnessing the unused spectrum in the TV broadcast band to provide mobile network services.

World Mobile utilized SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet system in Nigeria as a backhaul method. The combination of TV White Space and Starlink technologies allows World Mobile to leverage existing infrastructure and spectrum resources, expanding its network coverage.

Zanzibar’s Commercial Network and Future Expansion

Before the field tests, World Mobile launched its commercial network in Zanzibar, where over 300 AirNodes currently provide wireless connectivity to more than 16,000 users daily.

The company envisions a “sharing economy” that can finance the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in rural Africa and beyond. World Mobile’s DeWi solution offers connectivity at a lower cost than traditional mobile network operators, making it a viable option for creating sustainable telecommunications infrastructure.

Towards a Connected Future

World Mobile’s successful DeWi field tests demonstrate the adaptability and effectiveness of their hybrid connectivity solution. By utilizing innovative technologies and blockchain-based infrastructure, World Mobile aims to empower individuals to participate in the trillion-dollar global telecom market.

Their vision of a global community-owned wireless network aligns to create a more inclusive digital landscape and bridge the digital divide.

Closing the Connectivity Gap

The company’s commitment to closing the connectivity gap goes beyond technology. World Mobile aims to create a global community-owned wireless network that empowers individuals and fosters social and economic inclusion.

By offering connectivity at a lower cost than traditional mobile network operators, World Mobile envisions a sharing economy where community participation helps fund the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure in rural Africa and beyond.

In addition to its technological advancements, World Mobile seeks to collaborate with governmental bodies, regulators, and various industry sectors to create a comprehensive approach to bridging the digital divide. By engaging in partnerships and aligning with stakeholders committed to a common goal, World Mobile aims to amplify its impact and create lasting change in underserved communities.

Conclusion

World Mobile’s completion of field tests in Kenya, Mozambique, and Nigeria brings them closer to their global vision of providing affordable and reliable internet access to underserved areas. Through the successful utilization of TV White Space equipment and SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet system, World Mobile showcases the adaptability and scalability of its DeWi technology.

With a focus on building a global community-owned wireless network, World Mobile aims to address the digital divide and foster social and economic inclusion. By offering connectivity at a lower cost and leveraging blockchain-based infrastructure, World Mobile provides a viable solution to extend telecommunications infrastructure in rural Africa and beyond.
