David Maisel, the founder of Marvel Studios, has announced the launch of an exclusive NFT collection, Ekos Genesis, from his entertainment company, Mythos Studios. The 1-of-1 digital art collection features artwork from Mythos Studios, Michael Turner, Peter Steigerwald, and Maisel himself. Drawing inspiration from various influences, the collection promises to be a treat for collectors and fans alike.
Celebrating Artistic Legacy and Web3 Innovation
The Ekos Genesis NFT collection comprises unique pieces, including “1/1 published colored art as well as new 1/1 pieces inspired by a variety of influences, including classic Marvel comics and films, the Pop Art movement, Marvel’s iconic black light posters of the ’70s, the neon lights of Broadway, and the art and energy of web3,” according to the press release.
Mythos Studios, an intellectual property entertainment company, was founded by David Maisel and Scooter Braun. The studio owns a 50% stake in Aspen Comics, which was co-founded by Michael Turner, a legendary comic book artist who worked with both Marvel and DC comics before his untimely death in 2008. Peter Steigerwald, who worked closely with Turner, also contributed his artistic talent to the collection.
In a recent interview, Maisel shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Web3 allows more direct interaction with the community, the fanbase, and also a sense of psychological and actual ownership.” The Ekos Genesis collection is a testament to the potential of web3 technology in transforming how fans and creators interact, empowering artists and collectors.
Dutch-style Auction and Bonus Opportunities
The pre-auction deposit period for the Ekos Genesis collection opened on April 24th, offering collectors the opportunity to secure a bonus NFT from the Ekos Genesis Art Portraits, a separate collection of 100 art pieces. To qualify, collectors can deposit 10 ETH before May 1st. The main event, an 88-minute Dutch-style auction, is scheduled for May 2nd. During this auction, 995 Ekos Genesis Art pieces will be available for purchase.
A Dutch-style auction is a unique bidding process where the project developers set a specific value – the ceiling price or highest price – and then gradually drop the price periodically by a fixed amount. In the case of the Ekos Genesis auction, the bidding will start at 10 ETH and lower by 0.5 ETH every four minutes until it reaches 0.5 ETH. Finally, for the last eight minutes of the auction, the price will drop to 0.2 ETH, provided the collection has not already sold out.
The Future of NFTs in Entertainment
The Ekos Genesis Art Collection announcement comes as NFT trading volumes experience a resurgence, with a year-over-year increase of 126% in NFT trading volume, according to Alchemy’s Web3 Development Report. Mythos Studios is no stranger to the NFT market, having sold two pieces of Michael Turner’s art in May 2021 for $100,000.
With the continued growth of web3 and the NFT market, the Ekos Genesis collection is poised to be a turning point for Mythos Studios and the entertainment industry. As more creators and fans embrace the potential of NFTs and web3 technology, the future of digital art and collectibles is set to be revolutionized.
