Cypherpunk Technologies has added to its growing Zcash position, purchasing another 56,418 ZEC for roughly $29 million, according to a Tuesday press release. The latest acquisition brings the company’s total holdings to more than 290,000 ZEC, representing about 1.7% of the circulating supply. The move further cements Cypherpunk’s role as one of the most aggressive corporate accumulators of privacy-focused crypto assets.

Zcash Rallies as Privacy Narrative Gains Strength
Zcash, an open-source project designed to give users stronger control over their financial data, has staged an impressive comeback this year. The token is currently trading near $540, up roughly 866% so far in 2025, according to CoinGecko. That performance has placed ZEC among the top-performing major cryptocurrencies of the year, as renewed interest in privacy-oriented assets reshapes market narratives.
Cypherpunk Accelerates Accumulation Strategy
Backed by the Winklevoss twins’ family office, Cypherpunk only began building its Zcash position within the past month. Despite the short timeline, the Nasdaq-listed firm has already amassed a sizable stake, reporting an average cost basis of approximately $334 per coin. The rapid pace of accumulation suggests strong conviction in both Zcash’s long-term role and the broader privacy sector.

Aiming for 5% of the Network
Chief Investment Officer Will McEvoy said the company remains focused on its long-term goal of controlling 5% of the Zcash network. He added that Cypherpunk sees the market increasingly reassessing the importance of privacy in financial systems. Beyond Zcash, the firm plans to expand its exposure to a wider range of privacy-preserving technologies and initiatives, signaling that ZEC is just one piece of a larger strategy.
