  • Elizabeth Warren reportedly sent an email to supporters warning of a potential Republican Senate challenger, crypto lawyer John Deaton, and asked for donations.
  • Warren has a history of advocating for strict crypto regulations, making her unpopular among crypto advocates. Deaton frequently advocates for crypto holders.
  • Though it’s unconfirmed if Deaton will run, the Massachusetts race could be competitive as he may draw support from the crypto community against Warren’s fundraising difficulties.

Elizabeth Warren is reportedly seeking donations to prepare for a crypto-funded challenger to her Massachusetts Senate seat. Crypto lawyer John Deaton may run against the anti-crypto Senator.

Warren Rallies Donor Base Against Deaton

According to FOX Business’ Eleanor Terrett, Warren sent an email warning supporters that she has a Republican challenger considering a Senate bid. While not naming him directly, she cites a Boston Globe report suggesting Deaton intends to run. Warren paints Deaton as a “cheerleader for crypto interests” and says the crypto lobby has put a target on her back for her stance on crypto regulations. Her email asks supporters to donate to help her “keep fighting in the Senate.”

Warren’s History of Anti-Crypto Policy Positions

Warren has long advocated for strict crypto regulations, including anti-money laundering policies. She has criticized crypto’s role in illegal activities and tax evasion. Her positions have made her unpopular among many crypto advocates.

Deaton’s Crypto Advocacy Background

John Deaton is a crypto lawyer who founded CryptoLaw in 2021. He provides information and analysis on crypto regulations and frequently advocates for digital asset holders. Running for Senate would represent a major expansion of his crypto policy advocacy.

High-Stakes Massachusetts Senate Race

Though it remains unconfirmed if Deaton will actually run, the race could be competitive. Warren raised $850,000 last quarter but may see fundraising difficulties during an active challenge. Deaton could draw on crypto community support. Though Massachusetts leans liberal, an expensive race could impact Warren’s campaign efforts. The race will be closely watched by those interested in the future of crypto regulations.
