Microsoft’s Investment in OpenAI

Microsoft has invested at least $10 billion in OpenAI over the past few years. The tech giant also recently took a silent seat on OpenAI’s board.

This partnership has prompted antitrust regulators in the UK and EU to consider potential merger probes.

Nadella Defends the Partnership

Speaking to reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Nadella argued that the partnership promotes competition in AI.

“If we want competition in AI against some of the players who are completely already integrated, I think partnerships is one avenue of in fact having competition,” he said.

Nadella assumed regulators would question whether the partnership supports competition. “For me it’s a no-brainer,” he stated.

Microsoft Surpasses Apple in Market Value

Nadella also discussed Microsoft recently surpassing Apple as the world’s most valuable company.

He appeared unfazed by Microsoft’s success, saying “The last thing you want to do is to fixate on the stock price, which we know means nothing in terms of what happens tomorrow.”

Microsoft’s stock has reached record highs amid its AI advancements and integration of ChatGPT-like tools.

Conclusion

While the OpenAI partnership has raised regulatory concerns, Nadella firmly believes it promotes healthy competition in AI. As Microsoft continues innovating in AI, its growth remains unchecked.
