Social media giant Twitter will allow users to buy and sell NFTs from specific marketplaces that will be directly displayed in tweets. The tech company announced this development on Thursday that it was partnering with four NFT marketplaces to allow users to express their collectibles now through tweets.
Drum Roll…. Welcome Twitter’s NFT Tweet Tiles
The Twitter development team refers to their latest creation as NFT Tweet Tiles, an integration that displays the digital artwork in a dedicated panel within a tweet. It also includes a button that directs users to marketplace listings. The Twitter development team revealed on October 27 that the Tweet Tile pilot was going on, saying:
“Now testing: NFT Tweet Tiles. Some links to NFTs on @rarible, @MagicEden, @dapperlabs, and @Jumptradenft will now show you a larger picture of the NFT alongside details like the title and creator. One more step in our journey to let developers impact the Tweet experience.”
According to the statement, Rarible, Magic Eden, Draper Labs, and Jump Trade NFT marketplaces have been selected to participate in the test. Blockchain company GuardianLink is the entity behind Twitter’s latest digital product. The featured marketplaces collectively span various blockchains, including Ethereum, Flow, Solana, Polygon, Immutable X, and Tezos.
The NFT solutions provider, also the firm behind the Jump.trade marketplace, said in a statement that the featured marketplaces “will be able to display colorful NFTs directly within tweets for the first time.” The format of the NFT Tweet Tile will allow “a larger picture of the NFT to be displayed alongside metadata such as the title and creator,” added the GuardianLink statement.
The firm explained that if the pilot is successful, it could be expanded to all Twitter users, allowing NFT holders to share their collections.
Twitter’s move to expand its Tweet Tiles to NFT marketplaces comes after the social media company introduced NFT avatars for users to verify ownership by connecting their digital wallets.
Experience Twitter On A Whole New Level!
Tweet Tiles are aimed at allowing creators to enhance and extend the experience of Twitter users. According to GuardianLink:
“… the ability to embed NFTs, complete with pertinent information and a direct marketplace link, will drive sales and support discovery of new and trending collections. The Tweet Tiles pilot operates across iOS and Web for the five NFT marketplaces featured.”
In January, Twitter announced the support of NFTs as verified profile pictures through its Twitter Blue subscription service. However, the now Elon Musk-owned social media platform only supports Ethereum NFTs.
The development of NFT Tweet Tiles is expected to follow in the steps of the NFT avatars allowing users a doorway to the NFT marketplaces, which they can do directly from their Twitter app.
NFT Tweet Tiles is an expansion of Tweet tiles that have previously been tested with the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Guardian to the world of digital collectibles.
Therefore, if the pilot succeeds, NFT enthusiasts will experience Twitter on a new level. And that’s the beauty of Web3. The possibilities are endless!
