  • LimeWire has launched a nostalgic music downloading game, simulating the early 2000s file-sharing experience, which rewards players with points and potential crypto rewards in their upcoming ERC-20 token, LMWR.
  • The browser-based game involves searching for and “downloading” early 2000s music and movies, with each successful, virus-free download earning players points.
  • The top 1,000 players will receive a share of 150,000 LMWR tokens and exclusive merchandise packages, with the game available to play until May 15, 2023.

LimeWire, the once-popular early 2000s music peer-to-peer file-sharing service, has made a triumphant return in the form of a nostalgic music-downloading game. This browser-based game rewards player with points and potential crypto rewards in LimeWire’s upcoming ERC-20 token, LMWR. The game launch is part of LimeWire’s effort to reinvent itself as a creator membership platform and NFT marketplace after shutting down its file-sharing service in 2010.

The LimeWire Game – A Blast from the Past

The LimeWire Game takes players back to the early 2000s by simulating an old Windows operating system with the LimeWire software running. Players must provide their email address to access the game, which involves “searching” for old music and movies to “download.” Most music, songs, and films popular in the early 2000s can be found within the game.

Players must choose which items to “download,” with each successful, virus-free download earning them 10 points. The game continues until the time runs out or the user encounters a “virus.” It is essential to note that the files are neither natural nor downloadable, ensuring that users cannot access or play the content they collect in-game.

LimeWire’s game offers a trip down memory lane and promises crypto rewards in the form of their upcoming ERC-20 token, LMWR, set to release next month. The top 1,000 players on the leaderboard will receive 150,000 LMWR distributed hierarchically among them, as well as exclusive merchandise packages. Players can participate in the game until May 15, 2023.

LimeWire’s Reinvention as a Creator Membership Platform and NFT Marketplace

After its launch last year, LimeWire has transformed into a creator membership platform and NFT marketplace, allowing artists to paywall exclusive content for fans like Patreon. Creators can sell every piece of content they upload as an NFT and earn royalties on secondary sales. LimeWire reports that its marketplace has seen $1 million in total volume traded, with a waitlist of 3 million users and 20,000 creators.

The LimeWire NFT marketplace is not affiliated with the original platform or its team, which was shut down in 2010 due to a federal copyright infringement court case. The rights to the company were acquired by brothers Paul and Julian Zehetmayr, who has restructured the brand to fit the Web3 era.

The LimeWire Game combines nostalgia with the opportunity to win cryptocurrency rewards, making it an exciting and engaging user experience. By tapping into the early 2000s nostalgia, LimeWire is not only connecting with those who remember its original file-sharing service but also introducing a younger generation to its rich history. As LimeWire ventures into the Web3 landscape with its creator membership platform and NFT marketplace, the game serves as a reminder of the brand’s roots and its commitment to promoting artists and their work in the digital age.
