What are Passkeys?

Passkeys are based on public key cryptography and allow devices to authenticate accounts without passwords. When you register an account with a passkey, your device generates a unique key pair – one public and one private. The public key is stored on the account server while the private key remains on your device.

To log in using a passkey, your device simply connects to the server and uses the stored public and private keys to authenticate your identity. Your passkey is never transmitted or stored on the server.

Benefits of Using Passkeys

  • Seamless login experience – Once set up, passkeys enable easy logins across devices without needing to enter or remember passwords.
  • Enhanced security – Passkeys are unique to each device and account, making them resistant to phishing and unauthorized access.
  • Convenience – Passkeys sync automatically across Apple devices using iCloud Keychain. If you lose a device, passkeys can be recovered through iCloud.

How to Set Up and Use Passkeys on iOS

Enabling a Passkey

  1. Log into the account you want to enable passkeys for in the iOS app.
  2. Go to Settings > Password & Security > Passkeys.
  3. Tap “Add a Passkey” and follow the prompts.

Using a Passkey to Login

Once enabled, simply choose the passkey option instead of entering your password when logging into your account. Your device will authenticate using the passkey.

Deleting a Passkey

  1. Go to Settings > Password & Security > Passkeys.
  2. Choose “Delete Passkey” for the account.

Conclusion

Passkeys offer improved security and convenience over traditional passwords. Enable Passkey on your iOS devices for seamless, secure logins to your accounts.
