The founders of Gemini Crypto Exchange, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, have donated $2 million in bitcoin to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. This donation highlights growing support in the crypto community for Trump’s pro-bitcoin and pro-crypto stance.
Gemini Founders Voice Frustration With Biden Administration
In announcing the donation, the Winklevoss brothers voiced frustration with the Biden administration’s “war on crypto.” Tyler Winklevoss accused the administration of abusing its power to “bully, harass and sue” crypto companies in an effort to destroy the industry.
The founders praised Trump as the “pro-bitcoin, pro-crypto and pro-business choice.” Tyler said Trump is the ideal candidate for a cryptocurrency-accepting society and that attacking crypto is “political suicide.”
Trump Presents Himself as Champion of Crypto Innovation
Earlier this month, Trump slammed Democrats’ attempts to regulate crypto during a fundraiser. He labeled himself the “crypto president” and has become one of the few politicians vocally supporting crypto innovation.
Trump also personally owns cryptocurrency and accepts bitcoin donations. This further aligns him with the crypto community as he runs for re-election in 2024.
The Winklevoss Endorsement
In their statements, the Winklevoss brothers made their position clear – Donald Trump is the best candidate to support the growth of cryptocurrency.
Their multi-million dollar bitcoin donation shows their confidence that Trump will end the Biden administration‘s hostile stance towards crypto. The endorsement highlights growing momentum among crypto supporters to elect a crypto-friendly president.
