Societe Generale Forge Obtains France’s Highest Regulatory License
Societe Generale Forge, a subsidiary of Societe Generale bank, is now the first crypto firm to be licensed by the French regulator as a digital asset provider.
SG Forge, an investment firm that offers digital assets services, has just obtained the highest French regulation license for crypto firms.
The Autorites des Marches Financier, the financial regulatory arm of France, provides two options for digital assets companies established in France.
The French regulator’s mode of compliance encourages an optional and mandatory form of license.
The mandatory license requires every digital asset provider in France to register with the AMF. There are about 80 digital asset providers registered with the French regulator. SG Forge completed its registration as a digital asset provider with the AMF last September.
The optional method of regulatory compliance is a stringent process that provides a full license to digital asset providers that meet extensive requirements.
SG Forge applied for the optional license, which was approved on Tuesday.
In a press release, the investment firm announced that it had obtained its full regulatory license as a digital asset provider (DASP).
SG Forge, The First Licensed DASP in France
SG Forge obtained the mandatory registration license alongside 79 other digital asset providers in France. The mandatory registration license does not have a high level of regulatory demands, unlike the optional license which SG Forge has just obtained.
According to AMF’s website, there are stringent conditions like complying with ANti-Money laundering laws, cybersecurity concerns, and other requirements.
SG Forge has undergone the process and was found qualified to be a licensed digital asset provider in France. The investment firm is the first licensed digital assets provider in France.
“With the DASP license approval, Societe Generale – FORGE confirms its pioneering role in the crypto assets ecosystem.”
“This step will allow us to continue supporting our institutional clients wishing to benefit from services on digital assets that meet the highest standards of compliance and banking security,” said Jean-Marc Stenger, Chief Executive Officer of Societe Generale-FORGE
The approval of the license enables SG Forge to engage in the buying, selling, trading, and operating of a trading platform for digital assets. SG Forge is also mandated to comply with CFT/AML regulations.
