  • Elon Musk stepped down as DOGE chief but will still advise President Trump moving forward.
  • During his tenure, the DOGE team saved over $160 billion for FY 2025–26 and aims to hit $200 billion soon.
  • Musk described DOGE as a long-term movement, comparing it to a “way of life” that will keep growing in influence.

Elon Musk’s time leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has wrapped up, but he’s not disappearing from the scene. Musk described his role as a “limited-term assignment,” noting it’s time to shift focus back to Tesla and SpaceX. Despite stepping down, he promised to stay on as a friend and adviser to President Trump, keeping ties strong with the White House.

A Humble Farewell with a Touch of Humor

Wearing a jacket over a shirt that cheekily read “The DOGE-Father,” Musk kept things lighthearted during his farewell press conference. Trump, standing nearby, praised Musk’s work as “historic” and said their friendship was “truly special.” Musk emphasized this isn’t the end for DOGE, calling it a philosophy, even comparing it to Buddhism—“a way of life” that will continue to drive transformation in government.

Billions Saved and Bigger Goals Ahead

During his tenure, Musk and the DOGE team calculated over $160 billion in savings for the 2025–26 fiscal year, a number that’s expected to rise past $200 billion. The mission? Eliminate waste, curb inefficiency, and inject some serious innovation into the public sector. Musk believes this is only the beginning of what DOGE can achieve.

.@VP on @elonmusk: "I think what he's done is really incredible… the DOGE effort will continue… and most importantly, the job, the job of making the government more efficient — of not wasting people's money — that has to continue. I think it's one of the most important… pic.twitter.com/w1S3Dfhweg

Still on the Radar, Just Not in the Spotlight

Although he’s moving away from his government role, Musk isn’t leaving the conversation. He plans to keep advising Trump and supporting DOGE’s evolution behind the scenes. For now, though, it’s back to rockets, EVs, and reshaping the future—one project at a time.
