- Elon Musk slammed Trump’s spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
- He warned it could push the U.S. deficit to $2.5 trillion and crush taxpayers.
- Despite the backlash, Trump stands by the bill, claiming it will drive growth.
Elon Musk didn’t hold back this week, torching the Trump-endorsed tax-and-spending bill in a blunt series of posts on X. He called it a “disgusting abomination” and slammed Congress for backing what he sees as a bloated, reckless move. Musk, who recently wrapped up a brief stint as a “special government employee,” warned the bill could blow the national deficit up to $2.5 trillion.
“You Know You Did Wrong”
Musk didn’t mince words. He called out lawmakers directly—“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.” He said the bill was full of pork and would dump crushing debt on the American public. Even for someone who’s been one of Trump’s biggest boosters, this bill, according to Musk, crossed a major red line.
White House Shrugs Off the Heat
Despite the backlash, the Trump team isn’t flinching. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is standing firm, calling it “one big, beautiful bill.” When asked about Musk’s reaction, she said the president already knew where he stood—and isn’t budging. Trump even fired shots at Sen. Rand Paul for criticizing the bill’s debt ceiling hike, claiming the plan would unlock “tremendous GROWTH.”
GOP Fractures Begin to Show
Not all Republicans are staying quiet. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky agreed with Musk’s assessment, replying simply, “He’s right.” Musk followed up with “Simple math.” So while Trump stays the course, this latest fight is revealing cracks in his usual support base—and Musk’s not one to go quietly.
