Digital assets inspired by President-elect Donald Trump recently made their debut on the Bitcoin platform via the Ordinals protocol. The non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are now accessible through Magic Eden for users who previously purchased the “Mugshot Edition” NFTs.
Trump-Inspired Digital Assets: An Overview
The NFT collection endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump presented its first 160 items, the Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards, on Bitcoin, using the Ordinals protocol. Customers who purchased the 100 NFT cards from the Mugshot Edition and submitted their Bitcoin wallets are eligible to claim through the NFT marketplace Magic Eden. As of the time of writing, users had minted 19 out of the 119 available Ordinals, with the claim period set to last until January 31.
The Functionality of Ordinals
Ordinals create unique assets on the Bitcoin blockchain by inscribing data onto individual satoshis, the smallest BTC unit. The Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards used Alpha sats, the first satoshis of a Bitcoin block. Already, six Trump-inspired Ordinals have been listed on Magic Eden, with the lowest floor price currently standing at 0.25 BTC, while the most expensive Ordinal from the collection is priced at 9.8 BTC.
The Market Trend for Ordinals
Although the Ordinals market cooled off in late May 2024, with monthly average Ordinals inscriptions ranging from 13,000 to 35,000 until November, it started picking up pace again by the end of the year. According to a Dune Analytics dashboard, monthly average Ordinals inscriptions ranged from 54,000 to 92,000 last month.
Trump’s History with NFTs
While this is the first Ordinals collection associated with Trump, the President-elect has a track record with NFTs, having launched several collections over the years. The latest edition, called “America First,” launched in August 2024 and included up to 11 benefits such as gold Trump-themed sneakers and a dinner with Trump.
Conclusion
The Trump-inspired digital cards’ debut on Bitcoin via Ordinals marks another milestone in the cryptocurrency and NFT space. The unique concept of combining political figures with digital assets provides a fresh perspective on how NFTs can be utilized and marketed.
