Virtual reality is becoming more mainstream, and this is particularly true in the fashion industry. The second annual Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW), scheduled to take place from March 28-31 in Decentraland, promises to be a must-see event for anyone interested in the intersection of fashion and technology.
MVFW is sponsored by UNXD, an immersive art and culture platform. The event will feature virtual storefronts from the world’s top luxury brands, including Tommy Hilfiger, Dundas, Dolce & Gabbana, and DKNY. There will also be virtual storefronts from Korean beauty brand Amorepacific and U.S. jeweler Ben Bridge, demonstrating the growing interest in the metaverse from industries outside of fashion.
Highly Anticipated Web3 Newcomers
One of the most anticipated additions to this year’s event is Adidas, which will debut a community-focused experience that brings together owners of its Virtual Gear digital fashion collection and Decentraland users. Virtual Gear NFT holders will receive an exclusive 3D twin of their Virtual Gear piece for their Decentraland avatar from wearing inside the virtual world. This move marks the first time Virtual Gear will be available outside PFPs such as Bored Ape Yacht Club.
The event will also feature wearables from Alo Yoga, a brand that recently entered the web3 space by releasing NFTs to its Aspen Ski collection owners and launching a virtual store. Alo Yoga will host yoga and meditation sessions in Decentraland.
Digital fashion houses DRESSX and The Fabricant will return to this year’s event. DRESSX will have a flagship store and two DCL-specific wearables, while The Fabricant will collaborate with two community creators, RuRingoM and Siki, and create its first custom emote.
An Homage to IRL Fashion Weeks
Mirroring the recent London Fashion Week, dedicated to the late Vivienne Westwood, there will be an immersive installation in tribute to the designer created by the art collective Vuelta. Additionally, COACH will team up with web3 artists, British shoe brand Clarks will offer nostalgic activities, including video games, dance battles, and vintage fairground rides, and Gaian, the wearables startup behind the world’s first energy-generating sneaker, will unveil a digital store.
Finally, Miami Fashion Week will be the first globally recognized fashion week to participate in MVFW. The event will host events, panels, and runway shows, and HBO’s The Hype Season 2 winner, Winston Bartholomew Holder III, aka Barth, will showcase a collection.
Dr. Giovanna Graziosi Casimiro, Head of Metaverse Fashion Week, commented on the upcoming event: “This year, we are incredibly honored to continue the legacy of Metaverse Fashion Week. We are seeing the return of many luxury fashion houses and the emergence and elevation of digitally native fashion. We are excited to see some of the world’s greatest fashion minds engaging in the future of fashion and what it can mean for their communities.”
Overall, Metaverse Fashion Week promises to be an exciting and groundbreaking event that showcases the potential of virtual reality in the fashion industry. With top luxury brands and innovative startups participating, there will surely be something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in cutting-edge wearables, immersive installations, or the latest virtual fashion, MVFW is a must-attend event.
