- A $1,300 investment in Moo Deng token turns into $3.4 million in two weeks.
- Concerns arise about insider trading, with liquidity issues limiting cash-out potential.
- Other traders also gained 1,000x returns, sparking debates on altcoin investments and trading strategies.
A cryptocurrency investor managed to turn a $1,300 investment into $3.4 million within just two weeks by purchasing the hippo-themed Moo Deng (MOODENG) token. The astonishing return has triggered speculation within the crypto community, with some suspecting insider involvement behind the sudden price surge.
On Sept. 25, blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain identified the investor’s trade on the Solana network, revealing the investor had initially bought 38.7 million MOODENG tokens for 9.8 Solana, valued at $1,331. Over the following two weeks, the memecoin’s value skyrocketed, turning that modest investment into a multimillion-dollar fortune.
Despite the massive return, the token’s pool had only $1.8 million in liquidity, meaning the investor couldn’t liquidate the entire $3.4 million without impacting the price.
Insider Trading Speculation
The impressive profit led some in the community to question whether the gains were due to pure luck or possible insider trading. Concerns arose about the market’s liquidity and the potential role of an insider or developer in manipulating the token’s price. Meanwhile, others praised the investor, hoping for similar fortunes in future trades.
A separate case emerged on Sept. 26 when Lookonchain revealed another trader who turned a $95 investment in INCEPT tokens into nearly $97,000 within just 12 hours. This case also raised suspicions, with several of the profitable wallet addresses appearing to belong to insiders.
Hodl Strategy vs. Memecoin Gains
While some traders chase quick returns in altcoins, other investors stick to the long-term “hodl” approach. For instance, an Ethereum investor who bought 96,639 ETH during the 2022 bear market made a $131.72 million profit after holding through two years of volatility.
These contrasting strategies highlight the volatile nature of the crypto market, where both quick wins and long-term investments can yield significant rewards—albeit with varying risks.
