- J.P. Morgan Asset Management has issued its first 10-year Bitcoin forecast, projecting a 10% compounded annual return.
- The firm estimates Bitcoin’s volatility at 55%, warning that unpredictable price movements and changing correlations remain obstacles to broader portfolio adoption.
- The forecast comes as institutional cryptocurrency investment expands, with JPMorgan estimating approximately $50 billion in digital asset inflows during 2026.
J.P. Morgan Asset Management has released its first long-term Bitcoin return forecast, projecting that the cryptocurrency could deliver compounded annual returns of 10% over the next decade.
The forecast appears in the firm’s 31st annual Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report, marking a significant step in how the investment manager evaluates digital assets.

For comparison, JPMorgan projects a 5.5% annual return for gold, suggesting Bitcoin could outperform the traditional safe-haven asset over the same period.
However, the firm warned that Bitcoin’s high volatility and unstable relationships with other financial assets continue to complicate its inclusion in diversified investment portfolios.
JPMorgan Projects 10% Annual Bitcoin Returns
JPMorgan’s new forecast estimates Bitcoin could generate a compounded annual return of approximately 10% over the next decade.
At that rate, an investment would grow to roughly 2.6 times its original value over 10 years, assuming the forecast materializes.
Despite the optimistic return projection, the firm estimates Bitcoin’s volatility at 55%.
That level of price fluctuation remains a major concern for institutional investors managing portfolios with strict risk requirements.
JPMorgan has not yet incorporated Bitcoin into its primary models for measuring relationships between different asset classes.
Instead, the firm introduced a separate model examining Bitcoin’s correlations with a smaller group of assets.
The analysts said their approach could change as cryptocurrency regulation becomes clearer, liquidity improves and Bitcoin’s price behavior becomes more predictable.

Institutional Bitcoin Adoption Continues Growing
JPMorgan acknowledged that investors are increasingly exploring cryptocurrency investments as financial infrastructure develops.
The report highlighted growing access to spot Bitcoin ETFs, futures markets, options, institutional custody and cryptocurrency financing services.
Analysts Sheena Shah and Dennis Cristallo described Bitcoin as the central asset within the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.
They pointed to Bitcoin’s established trading history, network security, liquidity and improving regulatory clarity as important factors supporting institutional interest.
Earlier in October, JPMorgan analysts estimated that approximately $50 billion had flowed into digital assets during 2026.
Meanwhile, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust recorded approximately $665 million in inflows on Monday, its largest single-day inflow since October 2025.
The figures suggest institutional demand remains an important driver of the cryptocurrency investment market.
Bitwise Challenges JPMorgan Volatility Estimate
Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan welcomed JPMorgan’s decision to introduce a long-term Bitcoin forecast.
However, Hougan questioned the firm’s estimated 55% volatility, arguing that Bitcoin’s price fluctuations have declined substantially over the past 15 years.
He suggested that JPMorgan’s assumptions may overstate the cryptocurrency’s future volatility.
Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor also welcomed the report, writing on X that Wall Street was increasingly recognizing Bitcoin’s investment potential.
Despite the positive reactions, JPMorgan emphasized that Bitcoin’s changing correlations and significant price swings remain important risks.
The firm’s forecast represents a long-term projection rather than a guarantee of future returns, and actual performance could differ substantially.
