Solana Leads x402 Activity for Second Week – Here Is What Is Driving It

  • Solana led all blockchains in both x402 transaction count and transaction volume for a second consecutive week.
  • The network also widened its lead over Base in x402 transaction activity.
  • x402 is a payment protocol designed to let AI agents and other web-based services automatically send and receive payments.

Solana has maintained its position as the leading blockchain for x402 activity, ranking first in both transaction count and volume for the second straight week.

According to a Sept. 9 report from Cointelegraph, Solana remained ahead of every other blockchain measured for x402 payment activity.

The network also extended its advantage over Base, strengthening its position as the most active chain for the emerging payment protocol.

Solana Extends Its Lead Over Base

Solana’s second consecutive week at the top shows that x402 activity continues to concentrate on the network.

While Base remains a rival in the category, Solana widened its lead in transaction activity during the latest reporting period.

The results cover both the number of x402 transactions processed and the overall transaction volume, giving Solana the top position across both measurements.

x402 Targets Automated Payments

x402 is designed to make payments easier for AI agents and other internet-based services.

The protocol allows software to automatically send and receive payments, potentially removing the need for a person to manually approve every transaction.

This type of infrastructure could become increasingly relevant as AI agents begin performing more tasks independently across online applications and services.

AI Payments Become a New Blockchain Use Case

The growing use of x402 highlights automated payments as an emerging blockchain use case.

Blockchains can provide the settlement infrastructure needed for AI agents and software services to exchange value without relying on traditional manual payment flows.

For now, Solana has established an early lead in x402 activity. Holding the top position for a second consecutive week, while widening the gap over Base, gives the network momentum as automated and AI-driven payments continue developing.
