- Hunter Biden plans to launch a memecoin called $LAPTOP on Sept. 9 on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network developed by Coinbase.
- The token will have a total supply of 1 billion, with 30% allocated to the founding team and part of another 20% earmarked for people who lost money on President Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin.
- The project draws its name from the laptop controversy surrounding Hunter Biden and represents his entry into the crypto market.
Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, is preparing to enter the crypto market with his own memecoin.
The token, called $LAPTOP, is scheduled to launch Sept. 9 on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, according to The Wall Street Journal. The report confirms Biden is personally involved with the project rather than the token being created by an unrelated third party.

$LAPTOP will have a total supply of 1 billion tokens and takes its name from the laptop controversy that became a major political story ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
$LAPTOP Targets $TRUMP Holders
The founding team, including Hunter Biden, will receive 30% of the token’s total supply. According to reporting on the project, those tokens will initially be locked for six months before being distributed over two years.
Another 20% of the supply is allocated for airdrops, including distributions to investors who lost money trading President Trump’s official $TRUMP memecoin.
The unusual distribution directly connects $LAPTOP with the growing trend of political figures and their families becoming involved with crypto.
Token Will Launch on Coinbase’s Base Network
$LAPTOP will launch on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network developed by Coinbase.
Base has become a major venue for onchain trading and memecoin launches, giving the project access to an established crypto ecosystem from its first day.

The launch also marks another high-profile political name entering the memecoin market following the debut of $TRUMP in January 2025.
Hunter Biden has recently spoken publicly about cryptocurrency, describing decentralized digital assets as an “inevitable future.”
Key Launch Details Remain Unclear
Several details surrounding the $LAPTOP launch remain unclear ahead of Sept. 9.
Specific eligibility requirements and claim details for the airdrop have not yet been fully announced publicly.
The project is expected to attract attention because of both Hunter Biden’s direct involvement and its connection to the political controversy surrounding his laptop.
With $LAPTOP explicitly targeting some $TRUMP investors through its token distribution, its launch adds another unusual political chapter to the memecoin market.
